The Talon is slowly coming back together after I discovered some valve train issues. There was a machining error that caused some carnage but it's all sorted out now. That will be covered in more detail later but I wanted to give everyone a heads up to inspect your Felpro MLS (or possibly any MLS) gaskets prior to installation.

I was installing a new 1153-1 gasket directly from the sealed package and set the head on the block. When installing the studs I noticed one of them had some "squish" when installed and I had one hole with some oil/WD-40 pooled in it so I pulled the head back off to clean it up and remove any oil off the deck.

When I removed the head gasket this popped out from between the layers and fell into the cylinder:

I didn't find anything else, but in the future you might want to at least spread the layers a bit and take a look before installing.

Thankfully I pulled the head back off to clean up the stud threads or I would be doing this all over again.

Permatorque is both the mls and composite gasket made by Felpro.

I assume you are referring to the mls Felpro gasket though?

If you read above it is identified as MLS 1153-1. A reader would have a hard time mistaking the post as composite related. However, I added some clarification.

i've had the head off my car 4 times this year, and i got it confused after owning a DSM and working on them for over 14 years now... Not that i thought it was composite but after the line about the layers it cleared it up for me.. and although i order the gasket from parts stores by number (but composite) I couldn't remember then felpro number off my head to kjnow at first. LOL that's funky ish though!!!
