I've got a "high performance" Fel Pro 1153 composite (not 1153-1 MLS) head gasket in my hands, and realize by the part number that it's not the 9627PT composite Permatorque that's held in high regard here. How does it compare? Good enough for 26 psi on a HTA68?

The HP gaskets from felpro are made a bit stronger than the OE replacements ones

The HP will have a higher temp rating along with a stainless steel frie ring

Your head gasket becomes more of an issue when your tune makes it an issue. Head studs and a cardboard gasket are good enough for most peoples' uses.... even the guys that think they're driving "race cars" every day to work.

The package says that there is no wire ring on it, but then I found 9627PT stamped into the gasket, so yes, Fel-Pro "high performance" composite gasket part number 1153 is really the same as the composite we all love. I don't understand why the second part number, but thanks guys.

Composite was never an issue for me on a DSM 76 at 30psi+, and still isn't. I have had 0 HG related issues with properly installed composite.

Doesn't seem to be an issue for Ted's aka @turbodsm90 low 9 second Green 1GB Eclipse out in CA either. I believe he's using a composite as well. Hopefully he can chime in and confirm.

Did you buy this HG individually or it came out of a rebuilding kit.

It's in its own sealed package, so I assume it was originally bought individually. It's been sitting for awhile and I traded for it.

I'm confident it will serve me just fine, my setup is pretty mild. Basically a 2g motor, installing Tomei 260 Poncams, BC valve springs, this gasket, ARP basic studs, on a HTA68 and all of the bolt-ons. I doubt I'll see over 400whp, even at 26 psi on pump 94.

I stopped running the composite gasket a couple years ago and switched back to an OEM and even a Safety MLS as well as a ss oring.

Let me put it in terms of fuses, these are all the headgaskets I have tried and can tell you how easy they've blown. HP levels are definitely 500+ in my recklessness with various fuels, tunes, and mistakes.

Apex composite HG 5 Amp
ITM composite HG 7 Amp
Felpro composite with blue striping 10amp
Titan SCE ICS 10amp
OEM Mitsu composite 15 amp.
ITM with SS oring 20 AMP
Felpro composite with SS oring 25amp
OEM composite with ss oring 25 amp
OEM MLS without oring 30amp
SafetyMLS with copper oring 30amp
Cometic mls (non HP) with copper oring 30amp

Started melting a hole in the head around here

SafetyMLS with SS oring 35amp
OEM MLS with SS oring 40amp

Never melted a head with this HG combo, but was on less power, yet NEVER had an issue even reusing this gasket.
Cometic MLS (HP version, now discontinued) with SS oring 45amp

Haven't tried these yet.
Copper with receiver groove and oring????
Copper titan SCE ICS with oring???
Felpro permatorque????
HKS????

86.5mm bore 4G64 in the works, but in a destroker version. Probably going to go with a ss oring in the block, and OEM mls.

That's what I've been thinking. I've been stuck between seeing if Felpro will make an 88mm bore Permatorque MLS, or just using a run of the mill 88mm cometic w/ SS o-ring. I'm not out to break records or revolutionize anything though, so I'm hoping that's not exactly necessary. I had great luck with my built G4CS in CO with just an OEM MLS and L19s. I'm interesting to see how well yours holds up though for sure. From what I've been seeing it's not that big of a deal, looks to be more user error than anything.
