I have searched and searched, but other gauges seem to hookup differently. My faze gauge has 3 things to hookup on the back of the gauge. I have a positive, a negative, and a thing coming out of the middle with no symbol. I tried hooking the negative up to the ground, and just wrapped the positive wire around the sender (belle shaped thing). (i did this under the car with the gauge just laying on the ground). What can I do to get my gauge working? The previous owner said that the owner before him got the gauge wires wapped up wrong. I have no idea what he meant by that, but I looked under the dash. And one of the wires coming from the gauge was tapped into some other wire. It looked really jimmy rigged, and wasn't held together very well. Looked like a ball of bare wires.

Please help, I have searched this site up and down, and cannot find an answer.

Ok the post sticking out of center that isnt labeled is for the sending unit, run a wir from it to this post. Then run a wir from the positive post to a wire that gets power when the ignition is on, not a constant. Then run a wire from the negative post to a good ground. It is a pretty simple hook up. Good Luck :thumb:

I took the wire coming from the sender to the gauge, and touched it to the negative post and the gauge just clicked on to it's max. I think I remember reading somewhere that this would mean my gauge is bad? Also, when i touched it to the positive post, the needle went back.

Try hooking it up as AWDTSIer explained to you. The neg post needs to see a ground wire. The positive post needs to see a power wire (ignition on... NOT constant). And, the unlabeled post is for the sending unit wire. There's nothing wrong with your gauge, it's completely normal for it to react the way it did when it's hooked up incorrectly.

Wow this is a semi old thread. But anyways, I think it's a bad sender/wiring. Reason being, the wires coming from the sender are all melted. What size sender do I need to buy if that is the problem?

Eh... I'm not sure what the correct size is, I just unscrewed my stock sending unit and screwed in the new AutoMeter one that I got w/ my gauge. By any chance, are you trying to run your stock gauge and your aftermarket one off of the same sending unit?
