you know the title just post up your favorite oil brand and type and why it is your favorite. Ex: better power/mpg/longer engine life...just whatever made you choose what you chose. Even if it was the price. Thanks, Chris :laser:

So many threads on this buddy, just type in up on the search and you will find alot of info on what poeple like to use.

I myself like mobile one 15-50

Yea, been covered a bunch, but i've never answered in any of them so.... I prefer either Mobil 1 or Castrol fully synthetic. I ran 5-30 for years and this year switched to 20-50 under advice from Darren at FFWD

mobile one full synthetic

...and some lucus full synthetic oil stablizer so those lash adjusters dont tick!:thumb:

ive read lots of different things, alot of people say 10-30 yet the back of the visor says between 10-40 and 20-40. ive been using 15-40

What did he say about 20-50. Reasoning? I'm very interested now that you mentioned it.

I just switched to it so I am not sure yet but the turbo and the Talon sure seem to like it! Before that I ran Mobil1 10-30 for 9 ever since I bought it! I run either Mobil1 filters or K&N filters.

I like to blend my own oil. On a typical change I run 3qts of Castrol Syntec and top it off with Castrol GTX all of it 10w30. I am a big fan of synthetic blends but I read a write up about them that said it really doesn't have much synthetic in it. They claim it's better to blend your own and have more synthetic in it.

Also I do not promote any use of ANY additives based on this: Bobistheoilguy.com

My GMC Sierra I run strictly Castrol GTX.
1963 Chevy truck 305ci SBV8 I run Shell Rotella T 15w40

Reasons for not picking oil:
Mobil 1: Overpriced & Overrated. My car seems to tick more with full synthetic oil in it
Royal Purple: Oil looks dirty after the first day. Although it's cool when you put it in (purple)
Penzoil: I've heard from many engine builders that this stuff is a dirty oil. Tends to sludge up over time.
Quaker State: Made by Penzoil
Valvoline: I ran this for many years in my other cars. If I didn't run Castrol now, I would go back to this.

Now your question will be Oil filters. I've got that covered also. I run only WIX filters on all my vehicles. Based on this study here ----------> Oil Filter Study

In regards to the 20w50.... I recently had my 6 bolt machined, and when I picked the block up they told me all the clearances that they measured. My journals are within spec, but a little on the high side. The machinist who I consider to be the most accomplished engine builder in central California immediately suggested that I use 20w50 oil. This was for a couple of reasons. Firstly the thicker oil will disperse heat faster than a thinner oil. Secondly he asked me if it was going to be a "hot rod". I said yes it will definately see some track time, and if I were to be at a really high rpm and let off the throttle abruptly a thicker oil would tend to not get thrown off the bearing surface as quickly as some of the thinner oils which also get thinner faster when introduced to heat. So this high rpm to no throttle causes a sudden drop in oil pressure that we are hoping to neutralize with the thicker oil staying with the bearings longer than a thinner oil.

As if that wasn't enough... When I got home I called Road Race Engineering whom I also think very highly of in regards to engine building/general car tech. I did not tell them what I was told, but I told them the situation with my clearances. They said it should be fine but use a 20w50 oil. That sealed the deal for me. Two reputable shops tell me the same information, and RRE says that they use 20w50 on ALL their turbocharged applications.

I'm sorry this was long, but thought that it might help someone.
