Is 20w50 good on a stock long block? I have all the bolt ons, just not a built engine yet.

Most definately. RRE uses it on on all their cars even with stock long blocks. Unfortunately up until this point I always liked Mobil 1, but they don't make a 20w50. The only 20w50 they make is considered a "motorcycle oil" and I don't know what makes it different as of now. I know Valvoline makes a 20w50.

Mobil 10w30. Sean at FFTEC advised me on this. This also happens to be the only oil besides AMSOIL that doesn't make my car smoke at idle. $23 bucks for a 5 quart jug of Mobil beats AMS at $9-10 per quart.

i used to alternate between royal purple and mobil 1. seemed whenever it started ticking and i switched it would quit for quite awhile.
