So I might grab a nice talon AWD off someone but it had a fast paced kind of knock sound but it's a little lighter sounding. It's not lifter tick but it's just really weird I'm wondering if anyone knows what it could be because I could get this thing cheap. Will post up a video on YouTube soon and post it in the thread.

My Eclipse was making a similar sound and it turned out to be a broken timing belt issue...

I've heard of a timing belt hydraulic tensioner that was bad making that kind of sound. Rather recently too. Worth a shot to check that out.

No problem it's just the diesel version . Sounds like lifters to me. But start it up and pull 1 spark plug wire at a time and see if the noise stops with one off..

We have actually diagnosed it as the balance shaft bearings are worn out so it is time for a delete. I'm not sure I'm going to buy it but it was an interesting thing to share.

If you've heard a lifter tick it isn't nearly the same thing at all. Lifter tick is a lot slower and quieter almost like fuel injector clicking.

IDK, I'll be surprised at the BS Bearing being bad causing that kind of noise. Do you have flakes in the oil?

Noise goes with the rotation of the cams. The timing jumped a couple of teeth. Its NOT the balance shafts

Im going off personal experience. I could be wrong. I could be right. Either way..its a learning experience for everyone everyday

I heard a similar noise from mine once. I didn't set the tension properly on the timing belt and it wore out the tensioner. The bottom of the arm started smacking the top of the tensioner body, making the noise. If compression is good, there is still hope for it.
Good luck,
Cheap
