Hiya, :)

My car failed due to "left front and right front ball joints"

Now which one do I need? upper, lower front? Sideways?! :) If I can replace just the ball joint itself and not the entire control arm that'd be cool..

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Did they specify wether it was the upper or lower ball joints that were bad? There is an upper and lower ball joint on all four corners on our cars. I've never personally replaced one, but I'm fairly sure you can replace just the ball joint without replacing the entire control arm.

Ball joints are common to go bad. Usually due to lack of lubricant. When you get an oil change, or do it yourself, make sure you lube the ball joint and if you have them, the fittings on your outer tie rod ends. If you do this, and have good quality components you should never have to change them again. Barring an accident or something like that.

Also, if you encounter deep water, grease the joints as water seeping in will cause the same thing.

Good Luck

According to Mitsu you cant replace just the ball joint. Ive checked around for some aftermarket ball joints with no luck. The recall is only for the ball joint on the straight control arm(of course the cheapest to buy also). Why did you fail? Because the boots were torn or did they measure the play? If it is just boots they can be had for $12 from the dealer or Im sure NAPA sells them too.

They had to much play.

Hrmm, i'll check to see if the recall was done on my car :) And I guess I have to call the garage to find out wtf he was talking about..
