Hey all. I'm getting a new external wastegate for my talon. I had an old Turbonetics external gate and the nut holding the valve to the diaphram came off. Now the bottom chamber won't hole a vacuum and the top still will. I assume that this means it is bad.

Anyways, I'm in the market for a new gate. I have the old 2 bolt Rayjay flange. I was looking at the venurable Tial 38mm gate or the Turbonetics Racegate 45mm. I have two questions about these gates. First, I would only like to buy one gate. I now have a Big16G and I know the Racegate is bigger than I need but I plan on a bigger turbo in the future. Will this big gate not be able to effectively regulate the "small" Big16G or will the Racegate be ok.

Second, I have been looking at spring chooses for both. Is there any advantage to going with a 10psi versus a 5psi spring. I know that the spring means that will be the lowest boost level you can run. Will getting a spring closer to your target boost level yield better boost control?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I run a TiAL 38mm external with my dual ball bearing 50 trin and it works beautifully.

Generally, you want to have your WG spring at at most half the amount of boost you plan on running. Mine is set at 1 bar, or 14.5037738psi and I would like to run around 30psi on the street

I'd get a stronger spring than 5psi as you will probably never run that low of boost.

I plan on making around 600hp. Would the Tial 38mm be big enough. I was planning on going with a 10psi spring but was thinking of a 14psi spring. I plan on running like 18-20psi. Would there be an advantage to runnign the 14psi spring instead of the 10? I realize my numbers were unrealistic before.

You can stick with the 38mm tial if you only plan to run big boost, because this gate will only bleed off so much air. If you tried to run low boost with a big turbo, it will jsut creep.
