External Gate on 16g question

Thanks for all the great info guys. I'm going to be running roughly around 17-18psi on the street so I'm thinking I will be ok. Yeah the main reason I went external is because I wanted solid boost with no creep which I have enough of right now. Would a ported exhaust side help that out to get the exhaust out faster?

You will have no problems with a Tial 38.
Im running an EvoIII 16g with a Tial 38 on 20 pounds and I
dont get boost creep or boost spike. Thats the whole reason for going External is to have better boost control not run in to more problems. I bigger gate like the Tial 44 is for running larger turbos with lower boost than whats normal.

I never tried an external gate on a 16g so i wasn't sure and gave advice on the side of a good safety margin. I wish i could find the page on wastegates i had bookmarked before teh format. But what it said was that a big gate is good for large turbos pushing low boost, they are also the better choise on small turbos running higher boost levels. Then smaller external gates are best for large turbos at high boost and small turbos at low boost, This is all according to the F.A.Q. page on one of the wastegate info pages i found while searching the net for info on a stiffer spring and parts for rebuilding the Tial 38 that i have on my car right now. So in a way we were both right, but you at least had the first had experience to know a 38 would be enough in his particular application... KUDOS!!

Ok I think i'm going with an already ported and welded flapper hotside housing so this way if I want to sell it later on I'm going to have my stock housing to put back on. Any problems you could forsee with doing this?
