i have most of the supporting mods and i was looking to upgrade to a new turbo....not sure whats the best bet...i want to get more top end while still keeping some low end power...im not looking to upgrade internals....maybe just a metal headgasket and APR studs....also what injectors for which turbos....im looking for anywhere around 400hp ... i was looking at the bullseye turbos or EVO 3 16g.............any suggestions would be great!
thanks!

I think it's worthy to point out that almost all of the people making the big numbers on the Evo III are making them mostly on a spike, followed by the power curve dropping due to the turbo not being able to hold the 28+ psi that people spike it to. Thus, people also need to remember that these cars are also doing this on race gas and/or some sort of injection for the most part.

Granted, I'm sure Don's setup without the meth injection and at a lower boost would still make a fair amount of power, but you get the idea.

Perhaps you should read the middle of Post #8.

Edit: The EvoIII would end up costing about the same amount as a regular 50 trim after you add the cost of an installation kit for the 16g which is anywhere from $200-$350.

I would hope not! One DSMTuner's vendor normally sell 2G install kits for $150.

Extreme PSI

However, I see that MachV, SBR, and DiamondStarMotorsport all have proved me wrong.

If I had all the supporting mods for a 50 trim, but was running a 7 bolt with 17,000 miles on it. would it hold up to say 20psi. or would my best choice be to go with a Evo III

I think that if you take a look at compressor maps the decision would be easy. The 57 trim and the 60 trim should be obsolete. There is no real advantage to either of those turbo's, over a 50 trim on a 2.0.

If the 57 and 60 trim turbos were obsolete why are they making better times at the track than EvoIII or 50 trims?

Dont get me wrong, 50 trims are good turbos but are for people that like to have power in the low end and mostly drive their cars on the street racing from one street light to the next, if you have a fwd like i do you want a turbo that has a bit more lag which in turn will have a better pull on the top end.

Our motors will handle 20+psi boost with no problem. My stock 7bolt was boosting 25psi with ARP studs and metal hg. I've seen people boosting 30-35psi with our 7bolt motors with studs and metal hg.

ok i am reading all this and still a little confused.. i have stg 2 on my car.. its fwd 6 bolt motor, i have tuned it for the small 16g but want bigger.. should i go with 18g, 20g, or 50 trim or what?? please note that i want to be able to keep my turbochargers.com manifold and internal wastegate due to budget.. pretty much i need to know what turbo should i run and what supporting mods to run it.. i run mid 13's on street tires with the small 16g but want closer to 11's in a fwd for the 2008 season. please help im confused..

<----- EvoIII power, baby!

A good tune is worth more than a bigger turbo, in my opinion.

this short post is worth more than what anybody can say. I'm still on the stock t-25. But amazingly with the tune that i have now i've been able to push the car really far. I'm tuning with a s-afc, and I have a logger and wideband. A tune is definetely everything.

I went from an evo 3 16g, to 18g, and now to a 50 trim. What I can say people that love the 16g just haven't experienced what a 50 trim is all about.

50 trim easily for the win over the 16g. Great street turbo, and pulls TONS harder up top than a 16g could ever dream. Also the 50 trim is much better for traction than the 16g. My 16g at 24 PSI on 100 octane on the street just spins all fours through first gear, and quite a bit through second. The 50 trim's extra lag allows me to lay alot more power down easier.

BTW the 60 trim is only about 10% larger than a 50 trim. Almost the same size. Not a whole lot of difference.

IMO rule out the 57 trim and go with either the 50 or 60 trim, the 50 trim is going to be a nice drivable street turbo that can lay down some good track numbers and beat out any 16g's, and the 60 trim is going to give you better track numbers and will still be a beast on the street...i'm building a 60-1 set up right now with a set of 272 cams and dsmlink, and nothing on the street is going to come close to it
