Evo III 16G Turbo Spool Sound

So i've installed an evo III 16g on my first gen, my previous turbo was the 14b. It makes a totally different spool noise though. It's more of a deeper sound mixed with a very very very faint high pitched sound. It's of course very hard to explain in text. Just wondering if anyone else has also experienced this different spooling sound when they switched from their 14b to the evoIII. Thanks!

ROFL I got the same sound. It's insane. And I'm only running 16PSI. I flippin' love it!!

I think it's great that turbos sound different. Nothing out of the ordinary. Have you guys heard semi trucks lately? Each and every single turbo sounds the same...for about 1 second before they have to shift.
 
I got my 16g and noticed it was excessively quiet. A few weeks later it started to have a distinct turbo sound. I'm curious to know why it was so quiet before. Do turbo's need to be broken in I'm running the same amount of boost Stock (havent installed my turbo back exhuast yet). I just can't figure out why it changed from extremely quiet to a jet engine in a few weeks.
 
my DSM with a 14B is pretty quiet.. but my other one with a small 16G has the sweet sound of a jet turbine.. I also have a small exhaust leak at the downpipe, so when I fix that it might go away.. not sure.
 
btw what does a 14b sound like on a 2g.....got to admit though the t25 sounds nice
On my 97 my 14b is not very loud, but you can hear the airflow rushing through all my FMIC piping even at low boost -like 5-7psi on the gauge. Kinda sounds like a bad boost leak, even though I currently have no boost leaks. Above 10psi the high pitched whistle arrives and when you go WOT, even at like 2600-3000 rpms, you don't really hear my 14b because the exhaust note changes dramatically and drowns out everything. BTW, I am using a K&N, 3" metal intake and 3" catback.

Well the T-25 has the highest pitched noise because it has to spin faster to keep the same boost. A 16g doesn't have to spin as fast so the sound is more of a vacuum cleaner. Howver, once you start boosting 18psi or more the high pitch sound/turbine sound will come back.

My 14b spools loud when I get on it, so I let off. Don't know if it's gonna break or if it's gonna spool up and move my car but I'm too much of a girl to do it.
 
Man, hearing everyone talk about how their turbo sounds makes me miss mine so much. I haven't driven my car for about 4 months and I think i forgot what it feels like.:cry:
 
I remember how my big28 sounded compared to my t25... I'd assume that's what the 16g sounded like. My 60-1 is loud as hell though. Like stated above, it all depends on your intake pipe/filter setup and your exhaust setup.

Word. My big28 with an open intake and a short rout fmic was ridiculously (is that word?) loud. It easily drowned out my 3in exhaust.
 
Yeah the evo 3s are the way to go if you are on a budget. Im shooting for 420 at the wheels with meth. As far as the sound goes it sounds cool if i only get in to it a little bit before the wastegate opens and drowns out everything else.
 
Yea there is no way you would be able to hear my turbo spool. When my wastegate opens thats all you will hear. Everyone I have ever raced or done a little pull for, loves my car. At first you hear my turbo spool and then my wastegate opens and I'm gone. Gotta love it.

When I upgraded my T-25 to a nice PTE 5031RE 50 Trim ball bearing turbo, WOW! For the first few weeks I was running like 15 psi. Soon after, I started boosting 22-23 psi that thing was a different monster. My friends describe it as scary! I am not sure how many people have the heard the new Ford truck with twin turbo's but thats pretty much how my turbo sounds but at a higher pitch. A nice sounding turbo with a HKS SSQ BOV (vented the proper way), a very sexy and scary combination!
 
yea. the 14b just sounds like a giant vacuum leak, just goes shhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the the b16g sounds sorta likea deisel

I put on my 16g last winter and it was quiet at first, but i just had to get accustomed to how it sounds at different boost levels. The bov doesnt flutter as much at low-boost shifts, it takes a little more gas to get it to do that. It does have the ssssshhhSSSHHHHH+light whistling sound. Good turbo for the street, gets into boost quickly and stays there when you shift quickly.
 
I am going to be installing my E316g hopefully in the next few weeks. Right now I'm running stock boost on my t25 with hard uicp and a HKS SSQV. For some odd reason I can get the turbo to "scream".....and I'm not sure if it's normal or not. I'll have to check what rpm it is at, but it may be how some of the boost escapes out of the BOV. It sounds like an eagle is swooping down to kill me!!! It sounds really cool, I'll try to post up a sound clip of it.

Anyways, glad to hear most like the E3 sound. IMO it's a good part of the fun.
 
I've just got the EvoIII installed and at 10psi I think it's pretty audible. At 10psi it's a high pitched whistle just what you would think a turbo should sound like. Pulls pretty good for only 10psi....
 
my 16g is crazy sounding...i iwll post up some vids on youtube after i get my slowboy order in tommorow
 
they kind of sound like an evo 8 with intake and intercooler piping. big vacuum cleaner. my buddy had a 30r on his gsx and it sounded like an 18 wheeler inside, i loved it.
