I just picked up some Evo 8 Enkei wheels. They're 8" wide, 17R 35 offset. The idea was to refinish them cause the paint on there right now is crap. They'll be flat black as I like the black on black look with my gs-t 5 spokes. And these will be for dedicated summer tires as well. The gst's will be made the winter alternative set.

For Size:
Tire rack recommends 245's and I don't think (don't know) if they will fit without spacers? Others were saying 225 is the most you can/should do. Right now Im thinking 235-240/45/17. Suggestions?

For Tire Choice:
Basically, these tires need replacing right away, and I was going to get some nice-performing tires, but don't know what to look for. Definitely don't want it to rub, definitely want better performing tires. The amount I care about performance and tread life is about equal at this time. What should I be looking for in a tire for performance?

A possibly related issue.. Threw the rims on last night, and after driving to work a loud scraping noise is coming from the car. Nothing is dragging, and Im almost positive Ive replaced all my wheel bearings recently (within the year). What could it be??! Could this possibly be the inside of the wheel scraping against something? I had it towed to the mechanic to check out. After my ball joint failed on me I have little patience when it comes to car noises.

I suggest you look at our FAQ thread and base your decision off of it. FAQ: Will These Wheels/Tires Fit?

What it usually comes down to is what you can afford, personal preference, and what you have available. Back when I needed a new set of rubber on my DSM I went to Firestone, and for street tires, continue to go with their brand of rubber. I personally run Potenza RE760's (245/45/17) but if I could have afforded them I would have gotten Potenza RE11's in the same size. My RE760's have been great running them at the drag strip and have no issues rain or shine, not sure about snow. San Diego, CA weather... :idontknow: Never needed spacers running my Evo rims with 245/45 tires and just minor fender rubbing when I get into a HARD corner going 60+ mph. I also run a Pro kit suspension so my DSM isn't slammed like some...

Definitely a related issue and your mechanic will more than likely tell you anyway. Depending on how low your car is will effect the amount of clearance you have running these wheels/tires. Once you heard the scrape you could have just jumped out and checked the tire for grooves. It will also smell like you were doing a burnout because the tire will get hot from it rubbing on the fender or knuckle.

It's stock suspension. I will only be seeing rain with these. I am giving the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 some thought and will gladly take a look at those youve suggested. Thinking 235/45/17 is my size.

I did jump out of the car and check for grooves (stopped first). Nothing. My drum brakes were in bad condition too. That could be the issue. Time for drum-to-disc conversion? Probably.
