So I just installed my evo ecu in my gst. Now the issue is that it trys to start but only runs for a half a sec. I'm running a 95 modded engine harness with a 97 chassis (97+cas and crank). Do I need to change the injector order or something to make it run?

Also, where do I connect the reverse switch on the manual trans? I used an auto harness..

sounds like you need to spend some time with a mulimeter and wiring diagrams.

Also doubt check what year it is that you have to swap around the plug wires as the coils are "swapped".

Basically for a certain range of year of the DSM coils when using the evo 8 ecu the coil for 1&2 ends up being the coil for 3&4 and vice versa

your post is a bit vague to really give you a hand. what all have you done so far? did you swap the injector wiring before you tried starting the car? did you remember to disable the ignition security setting in the rom? what rom are you using, is it a Tephra mod rom? if so i am not sure if his roms still come with his anti theft enabled but sounds like that might be what might be happening.

It's a working Tom from my buddy, Tephra v7 with sd. But sd is not enabled. I have not swapped anything around either with coil or injector. Anti-theft is off.

in the 97 cars you need to swap the ignition around, you can just pull the plug wires from one coil to the other and vice versa. you may want to swap the injectors as well but that can wait until you get the car running (you usually wont notice the effects until you are cruising at highway speeds, if at all). i haven't played with the SD rom enough to tell you for sure but it might make things easier if you swap over to a non SD rom if you aren't planning on using SD anytime soon.

I have an Omnipower 4bar MDP replacement MAP and a GM IAT already installed. I'm planning to run sd after the first tune.

start with the plug wire swap then. when it tried starting before did it act like it was only firing off of 2 cylinders and shake real bad or did it fire smooth and then just die out like the idle was set way to low?

It was violent...haha. Thats the only way to discribe it. Also, the first time I tried to start it, it barely kicked on. The next time was alittle longer and next was longer to about a full second of running before quiting.

You can't flash an SD rom and have SD "turned off" It doesn't work that way. You have to flash in a regular maf rom if you want to use your maf to dial in the car during startup.

From what I read there was a check box to enable it. Maybe I thought I saw that...

The way that the v7 roms are set up there definitely isn't a way to just turn SD on or off. There is a fair amount of patching involved to turn a rom from maf based to SD.

The other thing to verify is that the immobilizer is disabled through periphery bits and that valet mode is disabled.

it has been so long sense i have messed with my talon my memory is going, getting old sucks. i thought you could run the MAF on v7 SD to tune in your MAF as well, my bad.

valet mode.... yea sorry about that, i used the valet mode as an anti theft device for so long i forgot what it was actually called. :coy:

I just got evo scan. So I will be messing with everything tonight. Even if the car only runs for about .3 sec, will it give me data to what was working and not working?

I'm a complete newb to evo ecu/tuning/etc...

Probably not.

Post your rom.

You can try this rom. Our cars are similar so I'm posting one of my old roms from when I had evo injectors. I altered the scaling for your MAP sensor and I think I've done everything right.

See how it works but don't use it at high load if it does work. I have no idea which timing map it has and your VE is almost certainly somewhat different.

Also if your using electronic boost control this will run way higher boost than you want (I think).

Thanks!!! Is that rom for sd or maf?

-97 cars don't have to switch anything around ignition wise to run the Evo 8 ecu.
-SD roms MUST run SD. You need a MAF rom if you aren't. You also need to either run an Evo 8 MAF or switch some values around in the MAF tables to run a 2g MAF.
-If you car starts up and runs, the immobilizer isn't the issue. It prevents the car from even firing.

The rom Mork posted is SD.
If you see SD tables listed when you open it in evoscan, then it's SD.

Ok, its a sd rom. Will it except a wbo2 signal in the front o2 wire?

What are you trying to do with the wideband output?

Either keep your narrowband or run open loop. While some people do use narrowband simulation it is slower and less effective. You could attempt to run at a leaner mix for cruise but I tend to prefer running open loop if you're going to do that.

If you just want to be able to read the output through the ecu then use the rear 02 input, or use the digital out through a serial cable.

Ok, so I've checked damn near everything.

Injector pack is fine, all within range.

Injector plugs have a constant voltage of 5v. NO PULSING.

Injector plugs have 12v when I ground them to the engine.

Injector plugs show infinite resistance.

Questions!

How do I test the injector drivers in the evo ecu?

What is the path for power to and from the injectors, as far as I know its a power source, resistor pack, injectors, ecu, ground. Is that correct?

Where does the power come from in the harness?

I need the car running! Thanks for any help!!

Chris

I've skimmed the first few posts of this page and saw one person mention the immobilizer, are you sure it's been disabled? Sounds just like my 3g when I forgot to remove the immobilizer for our big maps. Can you send me your ROM?
