At what point do you feel the Evo3/RVR becomes a restriction? Or better yet, At what point would you switch to a smim? Or is it even worth it to switch to a SMIM in a sub 600 whp car?

I recently switched from a RVR intake mani to a FFtec SMIM. My car is making 438 AWHP now, it gained 17 peak HP from the mani switch, and gained 23 HP at 7500rpm with no change in boost. There were no gains below 5k rpm. No losses either :) You have to use a good smim to see gains over the EVO3/RVR mani, it's hard to beat.
Also the smim will move the power up to higher rpm, so it's not just a question of making more power or not, but where in the rpm range you want the power. I chose the smim to match the powerband of my Kelford 272 cams.

If I can keep a head gasket in my 2.4, I hope to have some results with the Evo III and then later move to something like the JMF Drag. I expected the Evo III to be a restriction on the bigger 2.4 and the GSC S2-"R" cams but it breaths well, pulls to 8000rpm but peak power feels to be in the 7200-7500 range.

It would be a great intake manifold for the 2.4 it will keep the power in the midrange a long with the higher rpms, Its not going to be restrictive to horsepower more it will be restrictive at say 10,000 rpm. This manifold will be perfect for someone not looking to spend as much for a smim

. Like someone said before its going to be cams that will improve your power.

Like pneumo said he gained from a smim but he also switched cams to kelfords which is probably what helped a lot too.
But all in all if you still drive the car in the street and the turbo is a bit laggy this will be your best bet to keep the power band in the mid range.

great info, thanks guys.

I have a evoIII IM on my car right now with the hx40 but just picked up a jmf race. Im going to try to dyno the car before and after to see the gains.
