I have a 95 gsx with a 6-bolt swap. I had the shop tie up my loose ends on my car. My fuel pump was shot due to sitting for almost 2 years. Replaced the stocker with a wally 255, now the fuel pump isn't getting power. Looked for bad fuses and relays, said they couldn't find anything wrong so their pointing fingers at the ECU. They sent my ECU off to get looked at by a local guy and he said my ECU has a "TRACE" in it. I have no idea what that means. Can anyone explain what that is? Is the ECU fixable? Should i fix it or just write it off as a lose and buy a new one? Sorry for the multiple questions. Thanks in advance guys

They probably actually said that your ECU had a bad or burned up "trace" in it. A trace is the little strands of copper running around on the board, connecting the components all together. If something got miswired under the hood, it easily could have popped a trace on the board. For example, this is what happens when the ground to the sensors gets cross wired to 12 volts under the hood, like when the O2 sensor wiring gets melted by the manifold, or people do a bad rewire to the MAS:

Personally, I would send the ECU to Dave at DSMLink and get his expert opinion. He can also tell you WHY the trace got blown, so you can fix the issue, instead of blowing it up again.

Thanks for the link to the ECM.com I pulled the top off the old ECU and a blown ground sensor was the culprit. I bought a new one from a guy off here and brought it to my shop, the only thing that worries me is if the shop know what caused it. If they try to hook up the new ECU with out fixing the ground sensor it will blow again wont it?

Do you trust them, i leanrned as much about my car as i can, i trust one shop here, but it could have more problems.

What do you mean by do I trust them? They gave me my old ECU back when i brought them my old one. It is the same spot on my ECU as the one in the link above. Tampa Mike at Top Dead Center Performce is doing all my work and tuning, and from what I gathered before I brought him my car he's top notch on the Gulf Coast.

If the car ran fine with that ECU before the work was done, you need to let the shop know what the problem is with the ECU, and that it is caused by a short under the hood on the sensors ground. Hopefully they can check to make sure that one of the O2 sensor cables isn't melted into the exhaust manifold, or some other malfunction that would put 12 volts on that wire, so you don't burn up the next ECU. In many cases all the ECU needs is that trace bypassed, as shown on ECMTuning's page.
