hey guys i have been thinking about doing a engine swap on my 93 eclipse gs and was wondering what type of engine would be good i thinking about putting a JDM 4G63T-Eclipse 90-94, Twin Turbo DOHC engine in it but dont know if there is anything better out there.... does anyone have any suggestions on what type of engine would be good to replace my stock 1.8

The only thing that I can think of that would be better is a non-JDM 4g63T. Because they're the same damn thing except JDM crap is more expensive cause people think they are getting something special.

If you want to 4g63T swap it then find an engine in the classifieds or junkyard or something. Same thing at much less of a cost.

I would suggest starting from Craigslist or the classifieds. This build you have in mind is not just pull the motor slam the boosted motor in and drive. This is a complete rebuild of almost your entire car. Your talking a wiring harness, ecu ect. I would suggest doing some homework and planning, and collecting the parts needed. Good luck buddy, i just did a build like this recently so have fun. Its worth it:thumb:

^ he can wish.... ihonestly have never seen nor heard of it.... usually some one gets flamed for bringing up a thread on how to do that but we support the learners and the newbies and help steer them in the right path of DSMs

A : Please do some research. For the Love of God, please.
B : The 1.8 Swap is simple enough, considering that you understand what all needs to be done. The list of parts needed go as follows (But is not limited to) -

1 : 4G63(T) Engine - Complete
2 : 4G63(T) Wiring harness
3 : Proper transmission (Note, the 1.8 trans WILL bolt up and function, especially on a N/T 4G63 fine. The transmission, however, simply is not as 'beefy')
4 : 4G63(T) ECU - Depending on if you're dropping the turbo 4G63 in.
5 : Driver side upper motor mount
6 : Complete Clutch assembly including flywheel

(This is assuming you have obtained a COMPLETE 4G63(T) with injectors, lines, rail, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, etc.)

C : Do, also note, that there are no factory 'Twin Turbo' DSMs.
D : The swap is tedious, be it easy or not. With more experience, you realize how simple the swap really is...however without any experience in the DSM world, it's a task. Do a lot of research before you think about performing a swap from the 1.8 to the 2.0. You would, honestly, just be better off purchasing a GST/GSX/TSI/Laser RS AWD.

E : For everyone else - A 'Twin Turbo' setup is completely possible considering that Paul Volk, a local Moderator, is running a Compound Turbo setup pushing well over 40PSI.

Not that its good but... LOL

If you read my previous posts i did not say impossible. Understanding that this guy May not have the experience or were with all to build a complete and functioning "twin turbo" set up on an I4. Knowing the fact that this guy is not Paul Volk

My personal advice, is to rebuild your current block and just install 2g pistons if you have a 7 bolt. And go turbo from there

He's already said that he has the 1.8L 4G37. If he had the 2.0L 4G63 then upgrading the pistons and acquiring the rest of the parts to turbo it would be a valid option.

I love how terrible advice gets more attention than proper advice these days.

I've done many many 4g63 (N/T) and 1.8L to turbo swaps. The swap is simple (to me at least), and cheaper then buying a turbo'd version of our cars if you find deals on the parts. I don't understand where people keep finding these $200 awd talon's from. Not PA that's for sure, or I'd own 10, seriously. You can search and read, but BY FAR the best thing to do is talk to people that have SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED the swap your doing (i.e. 1.8L to 4g63 Turbo), like myself. Just my 2 cents....

Shadow001dsm, congrats on the swap, I'm sure you'll enjoy the new found power. Thanks for adding to this thread also, as future searches will yield more results when reading threw the thread.

heres what i have done it was a 94 gs with 4g63 n/a i then swaped the full 4g63t out of a 92 awd talon, i have put a 94 2g head on it, a walbro 255lph, drilled rotors, the list is long and the swap is very time consuming and tedious but i enjoyed every minute as i like working on my car, i currently and now rebuilding the black 94 eclipse gsx that i have as well. heres some pics enjoy.

I just looked at your website and its clearly a typo. There was no factory 4G63 twin turbo, jdm or otherwise. Also I'll tell you right now there is no way I would buy an engine from a company called rims and things, LOL. But maybe that's just me.

I also like how it says it comes with a distributor, since the 4G63 has a distributorless ignition system.

LOL i have been doing some looking around and havent had any luck finding a complete engine set up that i would need for the swap any idels on where i can get some thing like this for a good deal and i have been crusing the classifiedes looking and havent found anything yet

You're in Mansfield Texas, so just south of Dallas/Ft Worth, right?. Check out www.texas-dsm.com. (the site has been down the past couple of days but once its back up you will find there are a LOT of dsmers in that area and you should be able to find and pick up a 4G63t pretty quick). The engines are out there, its just a matter of knowing and talking to the right people. :thumb:
