Engine swap opinions (95 eclipse gs)

Hello everyone

My 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS has given me trouble since day one, mostly in the suspension and engine faults. The engine is a 420a and im looking to upgrade instead of wasting more money fixing it. I have been looking around this forum, among many other websites and every topic i find is about how to swap engines or similar but i cant find an opinion on what kind of engine i should be looking for.

I have been looking for a potential V6 to put under my hood for a while now and any informed opinion is appreciated. My car is currently stock except for an exaust system the last owner installed, but is going to be replaced anyway due to rot. The kind of result im looking for isnt to break any records but i need more power in the high gears, its a day-to-day, rev-at-red kind of car.

Obviously the cheaper and less work the better, but i am willing to invest if need be.

OP, instead of killing the car by doing a swap that may end up scrapped after you run into hard times with fabrications and such, Why not take the 420A out and build it up and then install turbo onto the 420A. I have seen many 420A owners here at these forums get very nice HP out of it if its built properly.

If you dont want to build one by yourself then buy a stage II 420A engine from DSMgraveyard then turbo it.

420A engines are not crap OP

I looked into swaps for a friends GS, and i couldn't find anything like some of these guys have pulled up. It's sounds like a ton of work. I looked into a 4g63 swap for my friends, and i just told him its not going to happen. But if its what you really want to do I'm sure you could.

Alot of guys here was just giving you ideas on how to make a nice car nicer and to keep some money in your pocket. i tend to agree with the turbo guys and say that 420A cost some money to build/turbo BUT my opinion is that if there is a lack of GS-T/GSX/TSI around your area for a decent price or shape then spending the money on a healthy 420A would be a good option. If i had the chance i would pickup a 4g63 talon or eclipse if i could but money wise, i just dont have to purchase another car then resell mine.

Do whats right and what you think is best with your project but remember, you dont usually get out of a car what you pay for.

turbo 420a is cheaper then a gst/gsx for insurance too. just saying.

i reported a couple of these posts for going against the site rules also. might want to tone it down on being trolls and flamers.

Clean up the bickering from here on, guys- most of us are well aware of the potential of each engine (4G63 vs 420A)....and those who are not just need to read a little more.

I dont really care if im reported or the post closes, i only got actual answers/help from like 1/4 of the people who posted. Everyone else said give up. I get the point. If your going to repeat what has been said nd dismissed a million times then DONT post, god i say this in every forum but no, everyone must emphasis the same point. If i wanted to restart and have the same easy to do car that a million people had, i would have bought pre-moded one, like the dozen gst and gsx i passed over the first time. Do you think i bought a car in such ####ing bad condition cause it seemed like a good idea? No, i wanted a car done through my efforts.
