Hey im about to do a engine swap on a 95 eclipse gst, and i was wondering what years of engines i could put into this thing??? Should i get 95 year 4g63 or would any 2g motor work with this car??? i know their were changes done to the ecu for the 95s(eprom)... can i still put any 2g year motor into it... If so what all modifications would i have to do??? this will be my first engine swap so i want to try to take the easiest route possibe. Sorry about the spelling. Any help would be great thanks.

If you do the 6bolt swap easiest way it to get DSMLink but there do make a cas 1g to 2g harness by Magnus an you have to change the plug lines i think its 3 an 4 cylinder you switch. I took the easist route an got someone that knows what there doing to put mine in right.

He obviously just wants a motor to run in his car right? Do you have a motor picked out yet? If you get a jdm swap you can get the ecu wiring harness and motor for about 1650 shipped. It would be much cheaper to rebuild the motor you have though. The jdm motors are good motors though. They have low mileage.

ok well heres the deal, im about to buy this gst from this guy. he said that it has a blown head gasket and theres colant in the cylinders(### of the blown head gasket) anyway he said that it has been sitting for like 6 months... is there anyway i could jus drain all the fluids out and replace the head gasket... or should i just get a new motor for this thing. i dont think i have time to rebuild one with school and work... oh ya he said that when he tried to start it, it blew flames out of the throutle body?? (he didnt have the intercooler piping hooked up)

^^^i replied to this in your other thread. as for the 6-bolt swap all you need is the 6-bolt and the plug adapter from magnus or make one(i made one)

but for cheepest way out just replace gasket and put studs! suggest milling head also!

Is this a turbo eclipse you looking to get? I know its really difficult to work on if you have school and work. I was in the same position and it took me months to rebuild the motor. I rebuilt the head and block. I think you should just replace the head gasket, IF the guy didnt drive the car hard with coolant in the oil. Buy the car if its pretty cheap and then take the head off and see what needs to be done. How much is the guy selling it to you for?

I just got done doing this.

The only difference was the cam angle sensor
on the 97-99 motors.Located on the passenger
side of the intake cam.On the 95-96 the cam
angle sensor was under the intake cam gear.

95-96 motors would be a complete drop in, but
97-99 motors in a 95-96, would need a little cam
angle wiring. If you go with a 97-99 motor you
would extend your wires to the passenger cam angle sensor,
then look on you coil and replace plug wires on the coil
1 with 2 and 3 with 4.Thats all i did.Your cam angle plug
on a 95-96 is by the timing cover above the ac.The wires
will be coming out of the fire wall side of the timing cover
mid ways up top.

Just remember if you don't have a pigtail for the 97-99 cas,
wire it like this red wire on top, blue in the middle, black on bottom.
I just pulled some old wire's with pins from a cut harness, then plug them
in and permatexed it so there won't be no shorts or moisture.
Do it backwards and you will burn up the ecu.

ok ive got him down to selling the car for 1500, the body is flaw less besides one little pea sized dent on the rear driver side quarter panel.... i dont have a engine for it... im buying the car with the "blown engine" aka has a blown head gasket... the car has 87,000 miles on it... everything else if fine... should i buy it??? what im planning on doing is selling my esi(already have someone buying it) and useing that money to buy this tsi. do you guys think its a good buy even if the engine needs rebuilt/replaced???

If nothing else is blown, and you can afford downtime, I'd just lift the head off, make sure there's no warpage around the sealing areas, replace the gasket, drop it back in and go.
