hello .
well i just registered in this forum .
i have owned a dsm 1995 gst since last march . but last monday my timing belt busted out and i got a call from my mechanic today saying engine commited suicide . keep in mind i had the timing belt and all seals changed last month . anyways i have done some mods to the car . and i had a whole list of mods left for me to do . but this came up . my question is now since my car is really a project car . should i start my project on it and work on it from scratch all the way up or try to find a gsx . i had in mind to throw a race engine in it from portersperfomance.com . a stage 2 one . and since i have rust in the engine bay(michigan car) i was planning to take care of that too the whole way the whole car . make it almost look like a show car but with performance . but i need an advice should i try to find a shell of a gsx shell and make it a project or stick with my gst and start the project . again sorry if my question seems stupid . i left the motorcycle world to the car world . so yeh im a newbeee

^ ( not stupid questions) no question is stupid ;)

timiming belt slip .. yep she commited sui LOL ( soorry to hear) .. if it was just done .. id be a tad upset and want to talk to the mechanic who did it

umm i sapose it all depends what you want to do to the car and how much your willing to invest, ( tends to be a sentimental side to these cars) if you want to find another shell and start

back to the timing belt, how bad was it? could be easy as a head swap.. or could have a valve in the block wall :(

Exactly as stated no question is stupid and it depends on what you wanna spend money wise. If it were me id grab a GSX if you can find one for a fairly decent price and even a better one if your able to find one with a stock motor for cheap pull the motor throw it in the GST and sell the gst off to may make enough money. But GSX's are hard to come by cheap thats for sure.

If your planning on making big hp numbers, I would definitely find a GSX shell. One with no rust, and you would have the AWD, of course. But like the previuos poster said, GSX shells can sometimes be expensive. Look around your area to get an idea of the prices, and then start from there.

Also there is a tech guide on the forums were you can do a AWD swap. From what I have read, it is fairly easy if you have some type of mechanical knowledge. You would need a AWD trans/Transfer case, Drive shaft, AWD Rear end, gas tank, and other small pieces. Also remember that you have to have all one setup of either manual or automatic, NOT A MIX OF BOTH.

Im really happy with my GS-T...even though I get beat down by almost all the local AWDs. I`ve been told I need to either do the AWD swap(one local guy already did successfuly) or make it into a Dyno-Queen....But it is alot of fun on the track and the street only being a front wheeler!!

if i was in your shoes id just look into an AWD swap. good luck not finding rust on a MI car, i swear those shits start to rust as soon as they hit the dealership.
