Seems like I need some help. I need to remove my engine and install a new one but I have never done it before. I searched page after page but can't seem to find a how too tech article on how to do it or the best/easiest way to go about it. I just don't want it to take forever because I kind of need it done ASAP. Any links or feedback to this will be appreciated. Thank you

First thing to do is to remove all wires from the main wiring harness from the engine. Next, drain all fluids. They you have to remove battery, radiator, (shouldn't have to remove condensor) and anything that might be in the way of removing the motor. Or anything that might make it easier to remove. I'm not as familiar with the gsx, but I did my gst like this. Start with doing all this then hopefully someone else can help you more.

There's a website show.com that I have used for many different things can tell you step by step how to do things or you might find a guide in a haynes manual that you can get at your local autozone

Sorry that's not suppose to say show.com it should be ehow.com I'm on my phone and just realized autocorrect change it sorry about that

It's not overly difficult for someone who is familiar with the inner-workings of cars and has a reasonable amount of generalized mechanical knowledge. It's a fairly straight forward swap. And like mentioned above, there's countless resources out there for engine removal. Just Google it.

I have to ask, why are you removing this engine exactly?

Here's a few tips that might help if you do go through with the swap.
  • Bagging and labeling bolts helps if you have a bad memory.
  • When I was first starting out with cars, I would wrap a small piece of tape around vacuum lines and wires with a letter that corresponded with where it goes on the engine.
  • Make sure you have the right tools before hand. An engine hoist, breaker bar, a set of metric sockets w/extensions, etc.
  • Drain all the fluids prior to removing the engine and work somewhere you can make a mess and not get in trouble.

After a while, you get to have a sort of mechanical intuition and your mind can magically see how things go back together, making an engine swap a single day affair. This comes with experience though. So I mean this with respect, but if you have to ask this kind of question, you probably aren't ready for this sort of task.

And not to mention, there's no guarantee the new engine will fire right up without a problem. Any number of issues could arise with the new motor, so plan for those unknown variables.

^ great advice. I pulled my first engine about 4 months, and figured i could remember where things went, but through frustration and impatience you tend to forget.
Everything is pretty simple so take your time. The only obstacle I ran into was removing the half-shafts, but like mentioned above, having the right tools will help considerably.

I have the gst and i always pull tranny with the motor. A whole hell of a lot easier to mount tranny to motor out of car and you get to inspect the clutch, flywheel, tob. All i can say i make sure the engine is level as possible when you go to put it back in. its a lot easier to get things to line up and your not fighting pulleys or ofh hitting the frame. Also if you pull tranny with it make sure you remove the rear tranny mount off the front sub frame so when you put it back the mount on the actual tranny doesnt hit it.

Thank you for all the advice. I do know my way around cars. I also have a nice shop to use with all proper tools needed(my father is head mechanic at NYS Dept of transportation) at my fathers shop. I only asked because I have never pulled a 4g63 before and wanted to know best way to complete the task and if there were any tricks to make it easier. Thanks again to all who lent any helpful information.

I made a pretty comprehensive Engine Removal and Engine Assembly/Installation checklist complete with Part Numbers, Torque specs, and personal comments when I did my 2G 6 bolt swap. I even included links to some how to guides on the forums and manual references for certain tasks. PM me your email address and I'll send it over. Let me know how it works out for you and I might turn it into a tech guide.

What tech info do you want exactly??

You just remove hood, unbolt, unplug everything you see. Tag & bag. Drain fluids. Have a clean work area. Remove the motor mount bolts & subframe support bracket. Lift motor with hoist if available. Really easier than you think, I promise. I just did my first motor pull months ago.

Not intending to bring up a dead forum posting but I hope you are still active on here and still have this guide, I'm pulling the motor and trans out of my 2g and if I can have this guide sent to me I would greatly appreciate it.
