medicine hat,
i was told that to remove the engine out of my car that you have to pull the engine out through the bottom of the car...is this true???? how long does it ussually take to remove and put a different motor in these cars??

Stupid question, but did you make sure you have all the bolts removed? There's a lot of weird little ones in there that can be easily overlooked. You could also bolt the transmission back to the block and take it out as one piece. This is actually easier, in my opinion.

All bolts are removed. There is actually a gap all around the bell housing (at least one inch or more). At the bottom you can even see behind the pressure plate. The top is where the problem is. At the top the teeth of the fly wheel are all out but the rest of the clutch assembly is not clearing.

You might not have cleared the pinion shaft coming out of the transmission. That is the shaft that goes through the pressureplate into the clutch disc itself.

Lift the transmission with your hands, it needs to be almost horizontal (not leaning). Then "rock" it off of the flywheel. You will need to drop the transmission from the bottom of the car, though the engine can come out of the top of the bay.

I'm in the process of swapping out my 1g n/t and I'm up to the point of removal but I'm not sure where to place the chains to lift it out. Any tips? Also if i have to take the trans out, how do I lift it all out as one unit?

I wrapped my chains around the trans mount and the firewall mount, then onto the driverside studs of the mount with a nut on top. If your factory lifting points are inplace you can use them. But they rarely are there.

Just bolt your chain onto the drivers side using one of the bolts for the motor mount and bolt onto the passenger side by using one of the bolts that bolts the trans to the engine. Good luck with the pull. :thumb:

It is possible but its actually easer to pull at once. But I guess thats only if your replacing the axels anyway. I think we had to remove all pullys to do it though.

I removed just the engine... Tranny is still in the car. We removed the pulleys and power steering just to get more room. Have fun.

I have done it both ways and it honestly depends on which way you feel like doing it. It is one of those preference things. If you prefer to pull it all at once than that is what you are going to tell everyone is the best way. And if you prefer to pull them seperately than that is what you are going to tell everyone is the best way. Either way you decide to do it just make sure you take your time and remember where everything goes. :thumb:

My friend is a mechanic and is going to help me take my 99gsx engine out. He just wanted to know what major tools he would need,so he can bring them with him, like any 24mm ect
thanks

Basically an engine hoist, block stand, a set of metric sockets ranging from 5mm to 32 for axle nuts (probably wont use a 5 but most sets start there) probably want a couple 10mm for sure and a good wrench set as well. Good luck with this:thumb: shouldn't be to bad

cherry picker; jack & jack stands; 32mm socket for axle nuts; assorted wrenches, ratchets, and sockets; drip pan (for oil & coolant); and a breaker bar or impact wrench (<-- if you're lucky).
