medicine hat,
i was told that to remove the engine out of my car that you have to pull the engine out through the bottom of the car...is this true???? how long does it ussually take to remove and put a different motor in these cars??

i have to pulled the motor out. what is the easiest way to do that with auto trans and it awd drive. do we drop all of it out threw the bottom or can it be done motor only threw the top? please let me know and please dont write back if you have something smart to say please thanks

Once you get all of the bolt on accessories off, i.e. intake, intercooler pipes, battery, wiring harness, exhaust, downpipe, etc., You will need to remove the transfer case. Once it's out I would recommend lifting the motor/trans out of the top. Make sure that the axles are removed prior to lifting the assembly out. You can remove it from thge bottom, but you have to have the car very high up, like on a lift to get the engine out from under the car. With "normal" tool like jack stands and a hydraulic jack I'd recommend removing it from the top.

taking them both is the easiet when putting it back in. I highly suggest leaving the tranny mount bolt in while youre pulling it. Yes itll cause it to be at an angle, but youll clear the frame easier AND itll come out way faster.

I am pulling the engine from a donor 2G FWD Talon and not using the auto trans. I would like to avoid pulling the transmission if I could. I was thinking of using the method mentioned above dropping the engine onto a floor dolly and lifting the car high enough to get the engine out.

I will be mating the engine to a manual trans before installing in my other car.

I am doing this myself, am I just asking for trouble? There doesn't seem to be much room to move the engine to the driver's side to disengage the input shaft.

the easiest thing to do is put the doner car on some stands.drop motor and tranny.then dissconnect tranny from motor then cherry pick the motor out.saves alot of hastle.you have to get the car pretty high to get the motor out without smashing, scratching or breaking something.just be safe bro.

All good points. I will think about the logistics of that. I'm doing it in my garage and ideally I will have the Talon fully parted out around the time I pull the motor so I can strip what I need and send the shell to the junkyard.

Dropping the drivetrain to the ground means disconnecting everything including the axles, trans wiring, etc.. Would you just drop the subframe instead of dealing with the trans mounts separately?

To all who are trying to remove your engine in an automatic transmisson. Message me I can save you hours of time! Don't listen to any else on here! They don't have a clue! After trial and error i Know the way it can be done. With out pulling the tranny with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumb:
