Engine Priming

How many quarts will it take until I see the oil in the Cam area? I'm on like 5 and a half and I see nothing. Worried I may be pumping into places I don't want it going!

4.5 Qts is where you need to be at with filter. Now, you're one Qt. over. Oil pump isn't primed in which that needs to be done first after a rebuild.

I think I can take about a quart and a half out, throw a half in the top end, and turn it over without the plugs to move the oil through out?

I did prime it from the pump.
