All threads with vague titles regarding engine bay noises are now merged HERE.

If you honestly feel we can diagnose an internal engine problem from a poor description or low-quality video / audio sample, give it a shot.

I own a 1997 gst spyder and there is a ticking noise comming fron the engine. It comes and goes and it mostly sounds bad at idle. I have 97,000 miles on it and i change the oil regularly. I changed it about 2000 miles ago I need help to fix the problem.

As expected with any new DSM that I got for 950, she broke.

Not sure what, so ill ask you why she sits at my local shop after getting towed.

I was driving, when all the sudden the car started bucking. No noise, no warning.

So, I figure I shifted wrong and get to a light, pop her in neutral. As I stop, she starts revving really high. The tac isn't moving, but you can hear it.

I pass a few more lights, when mid drive she just stalls. I coast her into a parking lot, she won't start. After fifteen minutes its starts back up, no high revs or anything.

Five more minutes trying to get it home, it starts doing it again. I stall at a light. Another 15 minutes of waiting, eventually I just got it towed.

It makes a loud knock or tumble noise in the engine area, and revs on its own, much higher then the tac is telling me.

Any ideas?

I had similiar issue with my GSX and it was the ground from intake manifold to firewall.

Has the car had any work done to it lately?

As expected, the shop seems to think the engine is shot.

Its not revving real high or anything anymore, so who knows?

It just makes a loud tumble noise; looks like i'm out 950.

LOL.

I wouldn't keep starting it. Same thing happend to me when i bought my 95 a couple months ago. Its a bearing. Drain the oil and see if there are any pieces of metal coming out with the oil. If there is you blew a bearing. Could also be a risp pin problem. Would probably start looking for a motor.

Allright Ill check the oil.If there are metal pieces can I just replace the damaged parts and be good to go?If so which parts would they be?If not, will a fresh short block fix the problem?

Ive never really worked on engines. This will be car to learn on.
