I was looking to getting some engine monitoring and tuning software for my laptop, and was curious where i should start looking for this software. Also, I will need a cable to connect the ECU to my laptop, but is there any other bit of hardware I will need?

dsm link is good.. you can get hooked up really nice.. do datalogging, full tuning, set up 2-step.. etc..

but if you are kind of on a budget, a good datalogger and SAFC will suffice:

You can get the datalogging cable from:
pocketlogger.com

you can also find them on ebay.. just search for datalog cable or something like that

then you buy a cheap palm pilot (Palm M100) off of ebay for 20-30 bucks

download MMCD.. its free software for datalogging on a palm pilot.. you can also get a Palm pilot emulator and run that on your laptop with mmcd.. thats what I did.. just kinda bulky

then you get an SAFC off of craigslist or something.. they are on craigslist all the time for around 150..

other than that, you need to do aaalllooot of reading.. haha.. you need to look into the future and see what you wanna do with your car, because that will determine whether or not you can use an safc and datalogger, DSMlink, or something bigger, like AEM EMS... personally, DSMlink is the best in my opinion for bang for buck.. you get ALOT of dope features..

DSMlink.com

^^^ go there.. it seems to be the favorite around here.. I have messed with it briefly, and I was very impressed, and would never think of getting EMS because dsm link is a 3rd less in price (depending on whether or not you have an EPROM ecu)..

Hope this info helps
