engine cleaning question... [Merged 2-7] engine bay washing

As far as I know the, 2G's use a Crank Angle sensor, instead of a Cam angle sensor, which is down near the crankshaft pulley/timing belt/oil pump. So that shouldn't pose a problem. Can any one with a 2G confirm this?

So my engine is very dirty now and I need to clean it. What should I cover besides the intake filter?

This is the 420a engine.

I have heard some horror stories so let me know what to do!

FIRST OFF use search button bro. second this is the wrong topic for this thread you want non performance.
cover your altenator, plugs and coil... everything electrical thats it

be sure not to spray directly on the elec stuff. you don't really need to cover it, but deffinatly won't hurt. Power washing is good for thick stuff, but get some rags and start scrubbing, thats the way to make it shine

you can use Simple Green on just about anything. It takes more work than the foam in a can but the results are a million times better. . . also takes a million times longer :D

takes longer not because it is harder to use. it takes longer cause it is like windexing every part under your hood. . . lots of surface area to "windex"

Saw this in the gallery...

SO FRKN CLEAN!!

How do you get an engine bay that clean? Steam cleaning? I would eat off of that engine bay!

ha, looks like his bov is routing back into the water pipe :p

clean engine bay though, theres another red 1g in the gallery that has a really nice clean engine bay.

my guess would be just clean it with a degreaser of some sort and possibly some Mothers mag polish, oh and never drive it.

It was probably cleaned while the engine was out. Also alot of the unnessary vacuum lines/water lines, electronics, CC box, etc. are gone. All other nesscary lines are replaced with SS lines.

And then well mantained after words.

I see a little dirt under the headlights. :shhh:

Awesome detail though. I see alot of choice parts as well! What's the numbers on this thing?

Hey, Defiant, the links arent showing pics, nor is the NSX link in that 3kgt forum. Just basically cover up the air filter and soak the bay in tire foam?

Yep, also I find that Tire Foam cleans really well also. Spray it on all your plastic and rubber pieces and then wipe them down immediatly after and look at all the dirt that comes off.

A friend of mine uses kerosene with an air compressor, then rinses with a power washes it with water to rinse. He then goes back in with some simple green and a tooth brush for more detailing. Kerosene really eats up grease well. He's been doing it for years, and damn it comes out clean.

:thumb: that is a really nice engine bay, Hopefully with alittle more work on mine, it will be bling bling...LOL

Here is my engine bay, what do you guys think?

How the heck did you get your manifold heatshield so BLING?! Mine is rusted up to shiet!

But awesome job. If I didn't live in WI (where it snows 14 months out of the year), I'd probably check under the hood once in awhile and wipe the crud off....but, it's a lost cause for me. :thumb:
