The marks are lined up and dowels at the top? It’s a pair of Brian crower cams, curious as to what you think looks off on them?

Here’s a picture of the gears off the car. They sit at 3pm for the alignment marks. Wondering if it’s the angle of the photo making them look off.

I think what Paul meant is that both your intake and exhaust cam could be turned towards each other. Which would lower your marks.

Mine never stay where I want them till I insert the cam gear alignment tool. You should invest in the timing belt tool kit.

After one time of bending valves by torquing down a head with cams in it I started installing cams after the head is on.

This is exactly why I leave my motor with all the pistons halfway down in the bores which would make all of them even and at the same location.

After bolting the head and cams at tdc into the motor. I will then rotate the motor left or right about 90 degrees to top dead center. Turning left or right depends on which is the most direct route to TDC without turning more than 90 degrees.

I would suggest never bolting in cams without the head being installed because no matter where the dowels are valves WILL be open somewhere. A small mishandling of the head or even a misalignment while mating head and block could bend said open valves.

Just realized there is no belt in that pic. Forget what I said. Doesn't matter until a belt is on. Too hard to tell from this situation.
