Engine Advice?

So about 2 months ago my car went out of commission due to a spun rod bearing. I have 2 option right now as far as a fix goes, both of which require a new engine. The first is, my friend has a completely rebuilt 6 bolt engine with eagle rods and other aftermarket internals, though I don't know how much he is wanting. Or.... I could order a JDM engine for $1500 with all stock parts including turbo.

I don't want to make the same mistake and buy an engine filled with uncertainty like this one, but I also don't want to spend more than I need to in order to get my car going again. I really wouldnt mind having a 6 bolt, though I am not sure if it comes with everything needed to do the swap or even what I need for the swap to work. I guess what I am wanting is some opinions from the much more experienced members of this site, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

For $1500 you could end up with a decently built engine. I wouldn't risk going the JDM engine route if I were you.
-It is however easier and likely quicker to swap the engine, than it is to build a new shortblock or rebuild yours.

Here's an example of what you could do for about $1500.

sorry to hear about the blown motor... but i wouldnt go right into bying a jdm engine its like playing the lotteray with those thing... take 1500 buck pull you motor go to a machine shop and have it fixed? and put it back together yourself so you no its right good luck

I've been reading good things about JNZ's rebuilt engines. And they're not too pricey as other companies.

Yeah that is a good one. A lot of people rebuild their motors without much success. Make sure whoever rebuild your motor is a reputable, knowledgable person/company. I see a lot of guys with new motors and some unexplainable ?'s and stupid problems. WHY,cause someone didn't do the job right from the very beginning. The few extra dollars that you going to spend are well worth it.

Honestly, I am not leaning towards the JDM option either, but my current motor already has 120k miles and my parents are insistent that it would just be easier and cheaper to go with the JDM for 1500. My friend keeps bothering me to buy his motor as well, a fully rebuilt 6 block with a stroker kit. He would also throw in the stock t25 turbo so I wouldnt have to use this 20g on my only car and daily driver. That would likely cost me 2k or more, though. I really dont know what to do here ><

Read about all the horror stories with people getting JDM engines. We had one guy here in Denver get one and it lasted maybe 5k miles. If you don't who built your friends engine then I'd stay away. If it craps out, then you have to start all over again. Make sure its done right the first time to save you grief down the road. Every time I try to cut corners, it bites me in the ass down the road.

don't do jdm...do ## own build as indicated earlier, and have the peace of mind that it's all new, and wether you do it or have a shop do it, it's done RIGHT...remember if you are going to be driving it, ## gonna be revving it, and u dont want someone else's mistakes up @ 6500....check out what's indicated up earlier...thats a pretty good build...and will leave u with peace of mind

1500, as much as i would like to tell u it would, probably won't fund your build, and, while it's apart, there's things that you are going to want to do just because it's apart

oh yeah, I know 1500 wont fund a build. I actually think im going with the rebuilt 6 block. It belongs to a family friend and I can trust them on the work. For 2k Ill get the entire set up including stroker kit and stock turbo, now I just need to read up on the engine swap >< Dont know which parts of my 2g I can use with the 1g engine and which I cant

pm me...i just put my 6bolt in the car the other day...it runs but i installed my alternator pulley backward so i gotta fix that and my clutch hydrualics are messed up plus i need to bleed the line...i think i can remember everything i had to buy...
