All light weight flywheel newbie threads are merged here.

I'm looking for my car to be very fast at lower speeds; my main goal is very fast acceleration. Will a lightweight flywheel be beneficial to this? Or should I just save up all my money and drop a turbo on my 84k engine :)

I am totaly rebuilding my Talon, and after the Kyb-agx's get installed this weekend i am moving to the transmission and posted about differnt frst gears on the tranny form but i want to know about the Flywheel too..Is it worth it, how much more power are we talking about here, i really dont undersand how the thoery of a lighter flywheel is better???

Your engine will rev faster with a lighter flywheel (Doesn't have to work to turn that heavy ass flywheel, If you've ever had it off, you know what i mean.) So, it can rev quicker, which means you can get into the powerband faster. Just watch between shifts, because your RPM's fall much faster too(you can fall out of your powerband).

but what kind of prices and companies are we looking at to get a new flywheel. I am very interested in one also. I know it will rev quicker which is awsome. Instalation is a lot of labor too right?

Now is this going to shave secs on my 1/4 mile or not?? Is it a worth while mod or is it i new air intake that will not do much or you...Cause iff i am going to pour 400 into it i hope to see results. And how the RPMs drop quicked? Thats what i thought isnt a lighter flywheel for like a FWD car so it have qucker responces and not slip between gears. The stock Flywheel stays in motion longer because its heaver (newtons 2nd law? I dunno) So inbetween shifts we would have higher RPMs annd due to the awsome AWD we can harness that..So wouldnt that rule out a lighter flywheel? Or am i just totaly of the wall?

I would say this would be a good investment if you were to do some road racing or autocrossing. As for quartermile times, I wouldn't expect to shave any seconds off your time. If you want to see what flywheels are available, you can check our Parts Catalog - we list them all:

I know thats what i think about you guys you dont have like one or two brands your true to unlike other boards

We just installed a SPEC lightweight on a 1g TSI. Let me tell you when i say lite i mean lite!8 pounds!!!! we are still breakin it in but it definately revs faster. with a 20g mounted the faster she revs the faster we'll spool her, the only thing i have noticed on the SPEC vs. some other ones we have sold is that when you down shift and kind of coast to a stop you can hear it winding down. it's due to how lite it is.
but the fidanza is nice too, done a few of those.

yet to sell or install any of the new ACT FW's, but i would assume it is a nice peice.

i hope this helps.

With a lighter flywheel you will loose on the top... your accelaration will be better but you will loose top speed, hence it is a good mod for "parking autoxing with cones" but is not for drag racing or track time. I believe the car will be more prone to crank walk also.

I bought a 2600 lbs clutch and flywheel, just wondering how much of a performance gain you get from the flywheel.

I can't be exact, I can just state theory. I put one on when I was doing my 6bolt swap, but I also removed the balance shafts at the same time. The xact is 6lbs lighter than stock. That plus the bal. shaft is a whopping 12lbs taken off the rotating assembly. That's no super improvement, but according to some website I read on, the combo should be good for about 15-25hp. freed up. So look for maybe a 10hp at best increase with the flywheel. The only thing you'll really notice is that the engine will rev a little quicker.

I got one and I can honestly say I think it's very nice. Gives yah betty throttle response (I think) because of it being lighter and quicker to spin. Just kinda overall feels better to me.

Well that and my 2600 loves it
:)

I need a 6bolt FWD flywheel, but do not want to spend a ton of money on one. I am going to be running a big 16g, 510cc injectors, act 2600(overkill for now...), safc2, and a walbro 190.

Ive been looking at the RRE OEM lightened flywheel. It is $195 or $135 with a core. Next cheapest would be the ACT Exact flywheel at $275. Do you think it would be best to spend a little more for the Exact flywheel?

This summer I am planning on going with a td06h 20g and supporting mods. Im just curious as to what you all think I should get? T.I.A.

The lighter flywheels definitely make the car nicer to drive around. If you are building the car for drag, the absolute lightest I would go with would be the ACT wheel.

The lighter your flywheel, the higher your launch RPM needs to be, in addition to having less inertia (flywheel weight) trying to move the car from a stop.

You'll also have to give it a little more gas coming off stoplights, while driving around town. :thumb:

I absolutely LOVE my Fidanza wheel (after it was inspected to make sure it was good to use, gotta love Fidanza's QC center  )

I know it will increase low end acceleration, but I do not know about top end. Perhaps someone on here with a larger turbo could chime in on that.

You can find Fidanzas on ebay for like $220 nowadays. I bought mine from ebay for $223 shipped. I love the thing and I was so glad that I bought it. You do feel the kick of the flywheel after 4k rpm cause it does romp you back a little bit even in 5th gear.

It won't change top speed. However it will decrease the inertial mass of the engine. This means when you are accelerating (at any speed) you will have less energy used in increasing the rotational energy of the engine rotating assembly. This is more noticible in the lower gears because of the higher gear ratios. That said our FSAE car gets the same acceleration gains from just removing the alternator (like 5 pounds) or shaving 50+ pounds off the chasis. Of course it is geared to rev out at 85 in 6th gear....

I went with the act xact 11pound streetlight. The thing revs alot faster and is somewhat setup for road racing but yet still very streetable. If I were you and getting a act I would go with a matching act xact flywheel. But if your going drag performance then go with a lightened stock...other wise Id Def recomend the xact act.My review is :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks guys. Looks like I will have to choose between the ACT Xact street lite and the Fidanza flywheel. I am not a huge fan of drag racing, but I will hit the track every so often. Id rather be on a road course or Auto-Xing :p

Also, I have a JDM gvr4 engine, any 6bolt flywheel will work correct?

Based on this I will safely assume you want to make some power. Because of this I am not a big fan of recommending a stock lightened flywheel due to grenading, and lightening a stock flywheel increases the chances.
Get some piece of mind with the ACT which is SFI approved.

I just got a ACT 2600 put in and i figured id have a ACT flywheel put in too since everything was out. I was wondering what the benefits of a lightened flywheel are and how they affect performance?
