All light weight flywheel newbie threads are merged here.

I'm looking for my car to be very fast at lower speeds; my main goal is very fast acceleration. Will a lightweight flywheel be beneficial to this? Or should I just save up all my money and drop a turbo on my 84k engine :)

I just got my DSMlink so Im still trying to fig it out, when I got the car it best time was 12.81, Ive put the link in there dome some tuning and broke the 11's with out the anti-lag function wich is kinda giving me a time to fig it out along with the no lift to shift. But Ill get it right.

So I guess Im goin with the ACT flywheel with the Anti-lag and I should so my 60' time's improved,

[Honestly, you may not find the specific info you are looking for. Most people that change out their flywheel are also changing the clutch too.]

I just installed a new clutch a few day's ago so Im good there, I was just looking at the monster flywheel in there and wondered if changing would help or hurt. It has alot of heat spots on it and is probaly warped so Ima change it out next week after I see what it does at the track this weekend, I smoked my old one after just a few passes so I know I got some 11.8xx in it, Im gonna do the ACT in there next week and Ill report on how it effected my 60',ET and Trap speed with the same tune as last week than Ima let it rip and try to kill it again

I need to get off topic here I paid $7,500 for this car you think it was worth it, Ive seen them for alot cheaper than that but it has the Dogboxracing double syncro trans and is very clean?

And I bought a 97 GS-T for $300 last week with a blown up engine :) but it is an auto car :( I just got a junk yard engine for it, now all I need is the time to put it in there, what do you think is a good askin price for it?

You don't need to use antilag for launching. Just use the regular stutterbox.

Click on ECU/Logfil
Click on RPMs
Then set your launch to something around 4,500-5,000 to start with.
Set your Launch speed to something like 5-7mph.

This will cause ignition cut at that rpm until your car reaches the launch spd. Experiment with the rpm adjustment if you don't like how it launches or if you want to build more boost at the line.

Edit: I would say that is a lot for the car. There are 10 second 1G's for that price quite often.

So just use the stutterbox, when I set the launch speed to 5-7mph does that mean its still cutting the ignition until that MPH?? I would assume that would help with the traction? and why no antilag I was thinkin that was kinda kewl LOL. What about the no lift to shift? Im having trouble shiftin with it on

Yeah I fig I paid to much for it but when I get into my buying mode I just get what I want, I think it got me that time, I was not very familar with the cars when I bought it, 2-3 weeks ago LOL, I was thinkin about an EVO but by the time I got it for 42g make it run 10's and do the usual rims carbon stuff to it Ill have over 60g in it, the way Im goin with this car it looks like Im gonna have less than 15g in it wich aint that bad for a nice drivable 10sec car

Yes, it could help with traction, doesn't do anything for mine though. Antilag is for BIG turbos that won't make boost with just the stutterbox. My turbo will build full boost (25psi) sitting still with antilag. If I launched like that, I would just sit still from all the spinning. Using NLTS is your choice. Some people like it some don't.

what does the oil retun line on the turbo look like on the 16g, is it like a std T3 style with 2 bolt holes and a square hole in the middle (o#o) mine is leakin and I got 30 of those turbo gaskets layin around, I crawled my big butt under there as far as I could and I could not tell what it looked like

How should I do my NOS setup, I have 2 NX kits just layin around so I was thinkin about runnin a 25dry shot pre IC to help cool it down and a 50 wet with a 1up fuel jet just before the TB, or should I just scratch the 25 shot and run it with just the wet shot pre TB?

I would just use the wet shot. You can even wire it in for dsmlink to control.

Thanks for everybody's help and opinions!!

I would still like to hear about somebody running a heavy FW though

to the OP, i used to have lightweight flywheel... not a fan so i took it out...it revs more freely but i just never liked the new feel of it

PS. parking/maneuvering was a b***h..

What was so bad about parkin and maneuvering with it? I have a welded center diff with LSD's so parkin is already a bi*** LOL

With a lighter flywheel you will loose on the top... your accelaration will be better but you will loose top speed, hence it is a good mod for "parking autoxing with cones" but is not for drag racing or track time. I believe the car will be more prone to crank walk also.
What is the reasoning to beleve a light weight flywheel is gonna be more prone to crankwalk?

Not sure why, it was a reasonable question. Not like you where commenting on others post.

But as for the question, maybe the lighter fly wheel and a heavier clutch has something to do with it. But I do believe I read somewhere that, that was a hypothesis about how it starts. The heavy clutch and pushing it in to start the car every time brings a little more prone to it. But that's the clutch more so then the flywheel so I'm not even sure that's true, :idontknow:

Just a though.
