All light weight flywheel newbie threads are merged here.

I'm looking for my car to be very fast at lower speeds; my main goal is very fast acceleration. Will a lightweight flywheel be beneficial to this? Or should I just save up all my money and drop a turbo on my 84k engine :)

One more question...

When you went from a stock flywheel to a after market light weight flywheel did you notice that it was easier to shift at higher rpm?

After some homework on the subject I ordered a fidanza 3.2 clutch kit for my 1g tsi awd and was wondering wether to go with a stock flywheel or upgrade to a lightened one. Which one, a fidanza aluminum or the billet?
This is my DD that will never see 300+ lbs of torque in case you all needed that info to judge by. Thank you

Id go with the stock better dirivability depending on the clutch you use and helps with launching as weel, light weight fly wheels suck on the street, I had a supra with a 11 lbs flywheel with a act 6 puck clutch it was no fun just driving to work and back.

Go for the aluminum lightweight flywheel. Better response. I have 1 on my DD and I haven't had any problems. Yes, the rpms do decline pretty fast but they climb fast too. I would definitive get one.

hey guys, i am getting my tranny rebuild by jacktrans soon, and i need to replace my flywheel or machine mine (stock). I am planning to have around 350-400hp to the motor by end of winter, just doing my tranny uprade now, replacing clutch to excedy organic stage 1, i heard its better than ACT from some locals here. Also in terms of flywheels I was wondering if its best i get mine machined, or if I could find a new one that is somewaht light I would get it, I have looked through RRE one's, and not sure of those, don't trust them, based on mixed opinions from people, but I am looking for someone that is close to stock, i dont need a 8lbs fidanza i dont think. I need something to retain that daily driving comfort somewhat, so I want it to be very very streetable, close to stock, as I hear its more hassle to drive those 8lbs boys on the street.
Anyways what are my choices? or is best i just get mine machined?
Incase mine is cracked, i want to see what options I have too.
Thanks guys

I have an act flywheel. The driveability isn't that much different then stock with this flywheel. I have driven a car with the fidanza 8lb flywheel and will never buy one because of the low speed driving. Also make sure the flywheel is stepped correctly for whatever clutch you choose.

its funny you mention the Fidanza and Exedy stage 1 disc as thats what I'm using in my TRE transmission. Really going from stock to this setup was such a improvement I noticed about 200rpm increase in spool time from the fidanza flywheel on my then stock t25. The exedy clutch I also cant say nothing bad about it has'nt slipped on me at and I've been abusing it for almost 20k miles.

I really didn't notice any bad affects daily driving it or at slow speeds.

it started building boost sooner Before the driveline upgrades i was seeing boost at ~2400rpm where as before I wouldn't be in boost till 2600rpm.

Did you datalog this? The reason I am asking is because of how fast it already spools. And not being able to look at the boost gauge and tach as easy as with a bigger turbo.

ACT 2100 with ACT Lightwieght flywheel worked good for me but this is only coming from a T25 so not all that much power its dealing with it, but I cant complain I love mine.

How did you notice a 200 rpm difference in spool on a t25?

An even better question is how do you pick up spool RPM by decreasing load on the motor? I could understand it spooling faster time wise, but spooling sooner in the RPM range makes no sense.

Anywho...
My ACT flywheel works fine for me. I've never driven a DSM with an 8lbs. flywheel, but I've driven Hondas with 8lbs. flywheels and puck clutches and it isn't really that big of a deal. On my car with the 2600 it took a few days to get used to traffic and hill starts, but it's easy to drive now and I have no complaints.

im running an ACT 2600 with one of ACT's Streetlite flywheels. i didnt notice any difference low speed driving wise. it drives just well as it did with the stocker. but i can tell a big difference in how much faster the engine revs because of the flywheel being a little lighter.

Correct.

I will say the car I drove with the fidanza was an evo. As far as I know it had an ACT clutch. I only drove it for about 15 minutes. I am sure if I drove it more I would have gotten used to it. But I didn't like what I saw at first.

I have driven on both the t-25 and on a 50trim on an act 2600 and xact flywheel. The clutch is heavy but you get use to it. Didn't have any problems drove solid.

I am now driving a fidanza with my 2600 on a 50trim and I can just feel the power as I shift through gears without even touching boost. Way more responsive, but the 2600 is still a beast to drive in traffic.

I heard from lots of local guys here, that ACT sux big time, my buddy is a subaru freak, and used it once, and said he will never touch that piece of sh** again. Those were his words. So i hear a lot of bad things about ACT around here, I dunno if its different on our cars. I would rather go with Excedy. do fidanza make any flywheels that are like 12-13 lb? or any other companies besides ACT? Just curious.

I have a Fidanza Flywheel with a Comp Stage 4+ (sprung 6 puck) Clutch and the only time I really didn't like it at all is when I was breaking the clutch in. Now that it is broke in it feels awesome and revs really quick.

thanks for the input guys.
So basically all you guys with fidanza flywheels, you think its normal for daily driving?
I dont want to be burning shit load more gas, and/or stalling, or being much harder to drive than stock, i dont mind a heavy clutch, but rev's dropping really quick might suck, cus i drive in traffic for about an hour or so each day!!! there and back!, so it sux big time to even have a manual LOL, but i put up with it, cus i have fun on weekends and evenings otherwise, i just want the drivability to remain as easy as stock, as long as its not huge difference i will be getting it most likely.

i don't know about the stepping or anything, any suggestions on which package would be right for me?
I definetly want to go with Excedy clutch.
