Ecu+ ?

You are correct. Both can be plugged in simultaneously (say with a laptop on the ECU+, and a Palm for the PocketLOGGER), or you could switch between the two.

Tom

This may be a retarted question, so if it is please exuse me, but if 1G cars can use pocket logger to log true knock from the diagnostic port then what is stopping you from developing a similar system for the ECU+? sure there would be wires going everywhere, but it would solve the problem.

Potentially, I could tap into the car's diagnostic port and read out things like knock from it. The hardware currently isn't there to do that, plus I want to support 1Gs, 2Gs and the EVO, and there isn't a way to read knock for the 2Gs and EVO from the diagnostic port.

But you'd sell a hell of alot more to people with 1gs if it had the option.

this is very intersting, i just discoverd the ecu+ today, and it has already moved to the top of the short list. I would like the dsmlink, but, it is an expensive proposition unless i can find an ecu for very little >100. I think this well be a good alternative for us who have 2gs without eprom ecus.

i have read this thread and to clarify:

without a wideband o2 sensor tuning with this device is done primarily by looking at the timing values?

One think i like is its a full separate kit, that i can have indepenet of my ecu. Thanks for the product ill look into it.

All -

Chris from Speedtuners let me know that as a vendor-ish guy, I shouldn't be participating in threads about the ECU+, since it's considered "marketing" the product, and thus forbidden. So I'll be dropping out of this and other ECU+-related threads here on DSMtuners. So if you folks have any questions about the product, contact me via e-mail and I'll get back to you as quickly as I can.

Thanks,
Tom

Weisco's Brian Nutter participates in these forums. I don't believe it's a conflict of interest to have someone knowledgeable about the product online to objectively explain/defend/etc, and stop incorrect theory and conjecture at the root before it spreads. Moreover, it shows a level of investment on the part of the manufacturer.

Exactly. If a thread is full of misinformation about your product, you should feel free--no, OBLIGATED--to set the record straight. No one has a better idea of what the product should/shouldn't do than the creator. Plus, by correcting this in a thread instead of a PM, everyone gets the correction, not specific people on a case-by-case basis.

As long as a vendor doesn't go around starting rah-rah threads every week about how great his/her product is and trying to sell it to everyone, then things should be ok.

I agree! unfortunately some other vendors have ruined it for the good guys :thumbdown

Personally I dont see this as a "sales" thread.More of a technical information/discussion thread on a product that alot of ppl show interest in. Better to face up to ones product and discuss it like this then not debate at all. I am very intrigued by this debate between BLK and Tcoll and for one I would like it to go on.As long as its technincal and not selling in its direction I think it should go on.

I have a question, you say you can take a few 5 volt inputs and data log it, so for example i can hook the wideband output of the plx o2 unit into the box. can you also tap into the egt probe from a greddy egt gauge and log that?

Additionaly, does the graph just show voltage versus rpm? or time? or can equations be applied to the value so that the graph shows actualy values?

Finaly, can the raw data be output? to say excel for further manipulation?

oh and another question... is the HP dyno bassed off of a built in accelerometer? if not are there plans to implment this or take data from a add on one.

if there is no acceleratometer are the graphs genorated more for comparison purposes then actual numarical comparsion. so i can see that i went from 310 to 320 hp, even if i realy went from 250 to 260?

FWIW, I agree with you. I do my best to stick to technical issues only, but in looking over some old posts, I can see where I didn't follow the vendor policy (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/faq.php?faq=faq_rules#faq_faq_vendor) exactly. In particular, it appears that discussing future enhancements or getting input from the community is a no-no. So it's definitely a fine line for me, and since Chris from DSMtuners is paying the bills, I need to toe the line.

(BTW, I don't want to appear to be criticizing Chris - he's got a tough job keeping these forums as good as they are, and if the policies appear to be strict, I'm sure there's a good reason.)

So I guess I'll still be reading this and other, related, threads, but not participating. Please e-mail me offline if y'all have more questions about the ECU+.

Hey, Dan from Mach V Motorsports here. We're the exclusive retail source for the ECU+, and as Tom mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread, we've worked with him on the development of the product.

After much nagging, er, suggesting, from Chris here at DSMTuners, I finally signed on as a sponsor, and so I should be okay to post "sales-ey" stuff. I do monitor quite a few forums, so I won't always be able to respond lightning fast here, but I'll do my best.

One thing that I'll mention that's evolved since the ECU+ first came out, is that we now have a version that is a direct plug-and-play solution for the 2G. That takes out some of the worry of soldering on your ECU wiring harness, and/or of making a wrong connection.

I recently ran my Evo on our AWD dyno with the ECU+ logging all the runs. We'll be looking at the dyno analysis function on the ECU+ software and comparing it with the dyno charts from the dyno, to see how they compare! Stay tuned...

The graphs are made using speed, weight, and time information. If you know the weight of the car, then the change in speed over time will give you an accurate indication of the power the car is making. In order for your back-to-back runs to be accurate, make sure you do repeat the experiment as closely as possible. Drive the same stretch of road, in the same gear, with the same amount of weight on board.

I'm getting one of these in the next couple of weeks. Oh and the dsmlink is about $875 if you don't have the ecu and you don't want to socket it your self. Ill use the extra 400 to get injectors and a fuel pump.

Also you can plug in a 5v wideband O2 right into the ecu+ and if you get a standard sensor ecu+ will give you your afr.

The best part that i like about it is the dyno simulater. you just put the car in 2nd and bring it to redline then backoff and it will give you a dyno plot that you can use to tune with.

Yeah, thats the big thing I think is interesting. If I godda weigh my car and do some other things for it to be accurate thats fine. Anyone know if there is anything else that will do something like this. If its not vary accurate then its really not worth squat. Dyno time is expensive and if you got an AWD it might be a long drive depending on where you live.
Anyone chime in to how accurate/usefull this feature really is?

I've got some runs where I used the ECU+ on our Dynojet. I'll do some analysis to try to see how the Dynojet and the ECU+ reports compare...stay tuned.

any chance that they will add the ability to read off the knock sensor like dsmlink can? i mean, this hooks up to a 2g with obdII with no problems, and i would buy one right now if i knew it could read the knock sensor.

so....what about those results???

I origionally thought about getting the ecu+ over the safc/logger combo since it added timing adjustment & a few other nice features for about the same price. But there was some things on the ecu+ that I though were downfalls. The first was the fact that it couldn't log fuel trims. Then when you look at the cost its $430 for the base unit but if you add the plug & play harness (I didn't want to hack up my ecu harness) it brings the price up to $560 (I believe) Now for $565(actually you can get it for about $50 less then this if you do some reasearch, & yes legit sales) I could buy DSMLink (yes there is the additional expense of an eprom ecu), so now you are no longer running a piggyback system and it has a tonn more fetures then ecu+ does. Plus the ability to log/monitor knock. I know the guy who created ecu+ says that will be on the next version but there was post a while back stating that it wouldn't be possible to get the right knock counts with that system. Plus if I end up going to a 6 bolt setup I wont have to worry, the ecu+ has a feature sorta like the DSMLink (well its supposed to do the same thing) but the guys that were running ecu+ on their 6bolt swap were still having problems (maybe they got it sorted out by now). For me I figured might as well do it right the first time, so I went with DSMLink.
