Resolved ECU for my Eclipse. Do I have to spend $842?

Ok, so i have finally gotten to the bottom of my cars issue. One of my buddies has a family shop, and they've found out that my car has an ECU problem. i called the mitsubishi dealership and its going to cost me $842.00. If I have to spend it, i will, but i wanted to know if anybody here on the forums knew where i might be able to get one at least a little less expensive. I dont really want to skip on quality though. please help

This is easy try ecmtuning.com and see what they can do, repairs, even add eprom for ecmlink.

Don't. Get an Evo 8 ($150), 2g EPROM ($150), 2g Non-Eprom ($40-60)....

You can tune with the Evo8 ecu and a 1.3b cable about $350 total

Or Get a 2g Eprom and DSMLink for $600? new.

Or just get another stock ecu and drive your car again.

I am assuming you need a 2g ECU that is for a MT.

I say search the classified ads for a used one, i see ecu's for sale all the time on there.

if you get a flashable black ecu, you will be one step closer to being able to tuning, the same can be said for an eprom ecu, depends what route you want to go for tuning.

If you want a "new" ecu, yea you are going to need to fork out the 800+ for one from a dealership. Maybe a OEM DSM supplier vendor can get you a better deal.

He has a 98. He should just check the classifieds on here. I just sold one for $110 shipped. There are probably another 3 or more for sale. Usual price used is $100-150 depending on the market. Way less than $800 for a new one.

OP, any ecu from a 98 or 99 turbocharged DSM should work. Most people are advertising them a a 98/99 flashable ecu.

If he's looking at paying $842 for a replacement ecu, he probably shouldn't be looking to do an ecu swap just yet.

MT or AT, doesn't matter. The TCU controls the transmission. Since his car is a 98, I suggest getting a 98 or 99 ecu so that the flash plug still works.

I would suggest contacting a wrecking yard, or taking a look at the various part out posts in marketplace. I wouldn't spend that much on an ECU if I could avoid it for sure, you could buy a new AEM EMS for that price.

i personally would get the dsmlink and ecu combo from ecm tuning, if you are even considering spending $800+ on a ecu. with that you would be ready to tune if you wanted to and save a couple hundred. If you just want to drive the car again get a 98/99 black ecu from the classifieds on here like stated earlier, you could even get a 97 turbo ecu since they are not really in demand for even cheaper if you have n o intentions on tuning. But what ever you decide, dont pay the dealer $800+ please .

Also, it should be noted that you can use a GST or GSX ecu from 98-99 years. The only difference is a speed restriction on the GST (which won't affect anything unless you're zooming at 140mph from memory). Check the classifieds, and if you really want to make sure you have the right one once you buy it, open it and check the chip codes on the board and the serial on the case.

Just look in the forums here there are ECU galore in there and they are all quality. Or you can send yours to ECMlink for a repair quote and repair. I sent mine in when i got ECMlink on my previous GST and was told i had the worst case of 2g caps leakage they have seen and they wasnt even sure they could save it, but they did and it worked like brand new!!

There are also members on the forum that rebuild ecu's & other parts as well. Steve rebuilt my ecu. I have had zero problems with my ecu since. Cost depends on what you want done. I needed capacitors and my ecu socketed. It was worth it.

or get a black plastic box ecu (98-99 gst, gsx) for $100-150 on ebay and tactrix 2.0 cable($150 on the forums) and you'll have a fully programmable ecu
