ECU caps question?

I want to replace the caps in my ECU, are they a "special" kind of capacitor or are they just generic capacitors? would any electrical shop be able to replace them? and, should I get the ECU board cleaned at the same time or is that risky? I'm jusat afraid that even a pro could screw up the ECU then I'm out a lot of money.

update: just took the ECU out. how careful do I have to be with this thing? I have it in an electrostatic bag. should I keep it far away from computers and tv's and stuff? oh, and I found a computer shop that is willing to change the caps for me. going to find the replacement caps tomorrow at an electronics shop.

Yeah, there is a guy on this site that replaces the caps in our ECU's. He really knows his stuff when it comes to ECUs. His user name is steve and his e-mail address is : [email protected]. I believe he charges $30 plus shipping and he is located in Illinois.

I went to my local electronics house and got replacement caps @ the same values, desoldered the old ones and soldered the new ones in. The replacements were physically smaller in size than old ones but it works fine.

update: for those who are interested, I took the ECU to a computer shop and had them change the caps. cost me one hours labour and 1.50 or so for parts. car runs fine and I am planning on not worrying about that for a while.

p.s. after 12 years my ECU looked pretty damn good. nothing wrong visually.
