ecmlink v3 or ecmlink v3 light?

There is really no losing either way. I bought v3lite and it did everything I needed it too for a long time and allowed me to learn the basics first. I only recently started to outflow the maps, and the upgrade to full added alot more features. It only took Thomas from Ecmtuning less then 1 day to email the upgrade back to me and install it on my ECU. If you dont need the extra cash for anything else why not just grab full? Either way Im sure you will be happy. Good luck!

well lets start by showing the things you cant do with lite....idk all of them
you cant use the ecmlink gm maf cable....if your planning on using a gm maf
go big or go home

theres one on the classifieds for 350 full version...which is a awesome deal....assuming you already have a eprom ecu... but one can be had for 150

does the eprom ecu come stock in the 96 gs-t ?

some 96 ecus did come eprom

wait im not quite understanding. your saying i have to have the eprom ecu to use the ecmlink light.

yes or you must get your non eprom ecu converted (98-99 black box ecus cannot be converted)
better to buy a 95 socketed eprom...or get it socketed yourself....unless you wanna convert a 97 ecu thats a better option since you wont have to swap spark plug wires or invert cas

Take your ecu out and look in the bottom right corner of sticker on front Id tag. If you see the letter "E" most likely is EPROM but i would open it up to verify 100%. If it is u gotta then send it in to link guys to get a socket added so you can swap EPROM chips. Your best bet is to find one in classifieds with software and socketed EPROM ecu in one package. V3 lite is awesome to start out with but honestly if you got the cash just go with full version. Just remember to get the bcs from link guys so you can run boost by rpm.

its only $40. i wont need to have a munual boost controler...right?
also is it better then the mbc

Depends on how you look at it.

I've never used that feature cause I have an AEM Tru Boost but from reading about it, it seems to be the same idea with duty cycles. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy. A MBC you can do a little trial and error and be done with it. With a Hallman in cab you can even do it without popping your hood.

Personally I like the EBC (electronic boost controllers) for their safety features too. (Shutting down to wastegate pressure if it overboosts is one). I wouldn't say an electronic is a "better" boost controller or that the manual one is either but I like the electronic one a lot.

Its better than a Mbc In my opinion, since you will have full control of boost thru link. It's a option that you will already have if you get full version might as well use it. I'm still on v3lite and wish I woulda just got full version from start. But I'm about to upgrade soon anyway. I've been using lite along with my gizzmo msibc to control boost works great for me. But can't wait to just let link do the work and have a lot more control.

I just wanted to add to this since I actually use the boost by gear solenoid on v3 full. Yes it replaces the MBC and it is better because it is programable per gear (which is especially wonderful for FWD cars). It is extremely easy to setup and tune. The mechanics of it are just two wires (one to ECU pin 105 [1g] and the other to an ECU sensor ground) and 2 hoses (one to boost source and the other to the wastegate). Dialing it in is also extremely easy and took me about 2 pulls to get it close and just a few more to get it perfect. It is no harder (albeit different) then setting up a MBC. As far as control, you can have separate boost levels for 1st gear, 2nd gear, and 3rd and up. Here is ECMtuning boost control page: boostcontrol [ECMTuning - wiki]. If you have any other questions or want more specifics feel ask away.

Oh to add if you go with the boost by gear which I think you should. It would be wise to get a map sensor to log boost and also a good boost gauge so you can visually see what boost is all the time. But the map will be especially important to help you tune.
