I'll probably get alot of crap for posting this, but so be it...

All I have been doing for the last 9 months is looking for a 2G Eclipse GSX forsale. Now, if you all haven't seen my current posts, a 14 year old, can't get "that modded GSX down the street", ok?

Now, my state in which I live, has next to nothing for reasonable 2G GSXs or any 2G Eclipses for the matter...

__________________________________________________________________
Now that I have stated a few things here is my main question:

Why isn't there a DECENT 2G Eclipse GSX forsale anywhere? I don't know a sane parent of a 14 year old willing to pay 8K for a 14-10 years old, with 1xx,xxx miles and some with 2xx,xxx miles. This is KIND of a rant but I mean, come on... Anyway, this will get interesting I bet...:banghead:

Be blessed.

Plenty of DSM's in Tri-State, but not too many good ones. Avg price for TSI AWD is about 2500-4000 in decent condition with minor mods. However near me there is a Silver '99 GSX for sale for 9 grand. Built for the street, 78k on body. Looks SICK. I am not a fan of 2gs at all, but thats a 2G to die for. To answer your question, if you are patient enough and are willing to travel an hour or two, you will find what you need.

idk man im 17 so i know where he is coming from kinda., but even then i think an AWD turbo... not a good first car.. you'll be upset when you wreck.. pretty much everyone wrecks there first time although i have not KNOCK ON WOOD  my GS is an upgrade from my first car.. a MINIVAN.. so your first car is not always your first choice but now i have enough experience to where i feel confident driving my car. even though i must say i am no angel. 120mph on a public highway was def scary... haha but i got it out of my system and am looking to upgrade to a gsx or even a gst would be fine. so again if anyone has a gst/gsx non running or running gimme a shout ;) :thumb:

+2 :thumb:
I had my license for 4 months now, and sometimes i regret buying a N/T but then again, to much power in unexperienced hands will most likely lead to a wreck. Plus, my GS is a good intro to the DSM game, and I learned to drive stick on it :hellyeah:

hell yeah me too :thumb: stock clutch with 150k on it learned on that car and the clutch is still good as new. guess im just gifted :thumb: ive been driving for about a year and a half now. i wouldnt even mind having a gst cause its not like im modding the shi* out of it so wheel spin wouldnt even be that bad. but DEFINITELY time for an upgrade. still love my GS though.

Yeah see, that's not even cool. How can one even get into the mindeset to think that JUST BECAUSE, not for any other reason, but, JUST BECAUSE a person is under 18, there is a problem with selling them s certain car? I just can't get it. If you "get yours" what's the problem?

It's just...people like that, tick me off....

Because an AWD turbocharged car, even when its completely stock is too much car for a 14 year old, I don't care how good they think they are at driving. And for that matter, it is a bad choice for a first car for anyone, in my opinion. Take one lap around a high school parking lot, you will see a trend (at least in the midwest), almost every kid's car has some sort of dent or visible damage on it. Is that what you want to happen to a pristine GSX (and if he spends 8k, yeah it will be a pretty clean car)? I would never sell my GST to a 14 or 15 year old kid after I've put a ton of work and money into it. You're just handing something awesome over to someone who hasn't learned how to appreciate anything yet, especially if their parents are buying it for them.

But, on the other hand, maybe this kid takes really good care of his stuff and has mowed 10,000 lawns to be able to afford this car, and his parents are only going to let him drive it in the summer during the day when its not raining and only on nearly abandoned roads where there is little or no chance of encountering another vehicle and he can only do that under their close supervision anyway for the first year he owns it. There's always a chance of that being the case, right?

But to address the original issue, yeah like everyone has pretty much said, you're going to have to hold out for awhile to find a nice clean 2g, especially an X. You might have to search out of state and make a little road trip to go get one when you do find it. Just be patient and keep searching in every place possible.

I was just gonna send you a link to poofy97gsx's car on mitsustyle when i saw it was sold and you had obviously saw that. ha im not exactly supporting a 14 year getting a gsx but Gl. be responsible. keep looking and something will come along.

I used to live in MN and its easy to find a car there but your probably going to get rust. The best thing to do is try to pick one up on the west coast as they dont use salt which means no rust. Use craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums check twin cities I bet you can find many...

I got my first dsm at 16-17 I am 24 now I coulnt afford to keep it running because I have a lead foot and have been a racer since I got behind the wheel. It didnt matter what kind of car truck van I was smashing down the road like a mad man I have yet to wreck a vehicle and now decided to build a 2g from ground up attempting massive amounts of HP so i can really get the old feeling of heart pounding adrenaline. Another thing bashing on the midwest and dents THERE IS SNOW AND ICE LOTS OF IT. If you drive hard be ready to drop lots of money in rebuilding. But kudos to you get that car its a GREAT first car because you will never forget your first so why not make it one of the BEST! DSM 4 LIFE

I paid $8k for my 99 gsx last year. 80k on the odo. Black leather interior. Only had intake, exhaust, bov. I drove 7 hrs for it. It was a Florida car so minimal body rust. I dont regret it because it was in mint condition.

I almost bought a 98 gsx, 120k on the odo. Drove 3 hrs to check it out. It was freshly spray'd black because the old paint had cancer. It was for sale for 5k iirc. When I decided I wanted to buy it, it was already sold the that evening.

The only reason you can't find a nice one is because no-one want to sell his gsx when it's in good shape ! Peoples I know sold there car because they don't want to put money in them anymore ...

Will die with or in my Talon TSi for sure.

i have had 2 95 tsi's and 1 98 gsx and i have never paid over $2500 in perfect working order. i am suprised they are that rare or expensive over there. i can find them all the time for under $3000.

WTF????Where are you looking? I cant find anything whenever I'm looking.haha.I wish I could find me a AWD shell/Everything needed for a AWD swap cheap.....

I bought a plane ticket to Illinois for a white gsx with 60k miles for $7k. Drove it 14hr back to the east coast. Id say it was worth it. Your going to have to accept the fact that your more than likely going to have to travel out of your state to find a decent one.

when i was 17 i bought my 97gsx I looked for about 2 years for a car...first i was trying to find a cheap supra 6spd but i eventually found there was no such thing after i got over that spent about a year looking for a 2g eventually found my baby... when i drove about an hr to go see it i knew it was what I was buying found it on ebay for a steal guy wanted almost 5k for it had 68k on the odo with minor problems but due to a non payer i paid 2700bux :thumb: you just got to look around man you don't know how much time i put into finding this car looked on every forum ebay autotrader cars.com you name it i been there just hang in there. and as for a young kid getting a fast car....learn how to drive well first the power in this car when i got it was crazy I raced everybody everywhere I got pulled over about 15x the first time i had my licence in this car thank god for pba :hellyeah: Just watch out and from my experience learn to drive really well before you get a gsx the thing is light and powerful

There are a couple just where I live here is the copy from craigslist LOL. I got me my 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD FREE from my sister-in-law guess I got lucky yeah is the one in my avatar nice, needs some work obviously but for free will not complaint.
- Bro don't listen to this postings about not getting a gsx as your first car, if someone is going to die in a car accident they'll die in a Suzuki swift as well is you that control the car not the car that controls you just be safe. If you have the chance to get it go for it and enjoy it.:thumb:

All those prices seem incredibly low compared to around here.
In a couple hours I'm looking at a '95 GSX with 90k. He claims it has never seen a winter and has no rust. The only mods are 3" turbo-back exhaust, drilled/slotted rotors, and hard upper IC piping. From the pics the leather even looks fresh.
He seems pretty set on $5,500.
Seems fair to me.. but I'm a noobie with DSM pricing.
anyone else have opinions on this?

Im going to have to agree with everyone else who said he dose not need a DSM as a first car. Im 23 and have been around turbo cars since I could drive. My first car was a Geo Metro 3cyl. Six months later I was handed down an 87 Thunderbird Turbo. Turbo 4cyl, 150 crank Hp @10psi, 5spd, 4,000 pounds. Later I picked up an 88 Thunderbird Turbo and after a couple of years, had it making 300 rwhp. I used this car for drag racing and autocross for a couple of years.

In September, I searched for a GSX and found a 95 in Little Rock for 3,300. I secured a loan, truck, rented a trailer, and drove 7 hours one way to go get it. I was suprised with the power and the responsiveness that this car had when I test drove it. To be honest, it scared me a little and have been told that I am a VERY good driver by several 30+ year autocrossers.

A close friend of mine was nearly killed in his 04 RalliArt Lancer a few years ago. My pasters son, great kid. Would take him at his word in a heart beat and would fight tooth and nail for him regardless of the situation. Was talked into street racing one night and wrapped his car around a pole at 90mph. He had only had his license for 3 months. He lived, with severe brain damage and is now getting his Bachelors degree in Computer Networking.

I can post pictures if anyone wants to see them. They were taken by the Sheriffs Department to document his death.

It because of this, that I call B.S. to anyone who says "I have this car, and Ill never do this" Bull****. Ive done it, my mom's done it, he did it, and everyone else has too weather you want to admit it or not. The only difference is some of us are luckier then others.

Do yourself a favor, go by a 95 toyota corolla. They cost about 500 bucks, they never break down, get 40mpg, go in snow, and hold up decent in an accident. Get some seat time in a car that you wont kill yourself in and then look for a GSX. In the mean time, save some money, and do some more research about how you really want your car (you can never know too much) and when the time is right for YOU the right GSX will pretty much fall on your lap.

Thats my $.02 about the whole situation.

I would have to agree with a lot of people in this thread and hold off on getting a gsx, especially for a first car. As much as I will probably get flamed for saying this, buy yourself a Honda. They are very cheap, reliable, and easy to work on. A first time driver doesn't need a powerful first car. My first car when I was 16 was a '93 Ford Explorer and I admit I did do some stupid stuff with it being rwd and having a pretty big motor. I did some things in that thing that I now look back on and ask myself how I could have been so stupid. I then traded the explorer in on a '92 civic hatchback and my driving style changed. I didn't do nearly as much stupid stuff as I used to, mainly because the car made a whopping 76 whp LOL. From then I upgraded to an '03 Tiburon and that car had some balls behind it believe it or not and then I finally got my first dsm, a '99 gsx. All in all, you need to take baby steps and work your way up to a car with power. You need to learn a lot in terms of maintaining the car, how the car (or any car) handles, and even learn how other drivers on the road react. Trust me, you'll be a lot less pissed off if you get into an accident in a beater car than you will be if you were to get into an accident in your prized gsx. That's just my .02 cents so take it for what it's worth.

Man I haven't been on this thread in a while... And yeah, it's almost offical, I'm getting a Tsi or GSX as my first car... And if not that, I'm getting an mid 90's Esi or Tsi Talon.... Then getting some kind of GSX/TSi shell...

Thanks for all the replies by the way. Oh, and an update; I'm 15, will be taking drivers ed soon... I now have tools, working on getting an engine hoist and stand.... I don't play around when it comes to this stuff...

Thanks again..

God bless.

Im in MN too, looks like we live right by each other...judging by the picture of the gsx right outside the duluth pawn america.....Just to brag a bit, I just picked up a CLEAN 95 gsx with 110k on it for $1900 from some retarded kid in Alexandria MN.... I might just sell it and make a nice profit or keep it, cant decide:sneaky:

I usually go out of state for cars, specially down south since they seem to be cheaper. I bought a perfectly working GSX with a turbo back, front mount, 272s, 550s and DSM link for $3500, thing only have 68,000 miles on it too. Of course I replaced everything in due time cuss of my own modding, but if you find something out of state see if the dealer is willing to ship and for how much. Personally I've always drove any car I have ever though of purchasing, but if you are a gambling man then go for it.

No, I live about 3-4 hours from Duluth...

How did you find THAT? A '95 for $1,900? WOW..... Want to sell it for $2,000? LOL

I am selling a 95 Talon TSI AWD 99k, auto modded, fun car. but I feel you on finding them, when I bought my first one I looked for 5 months before finding "the right price"

These cars are rare now adays, i bought my 97 Talon TSI AWD about 3 months ago for 4k, after looking for over 8 months. Granted it has a 97 gsx engine swap in it, and is a lightly modified already (i was really hoping to find a stock one) but it runs good and sounds nice

these 14 year old cars are becoming rarer every year.
