Alright my 91 talons ebrake sticks. The p.o. ran new brake lines and new calipers and rotors etc. He said after 6 months the ebrake began to stick again. Anyone else had this problem and was able to fix it?

I used to have the same problem. Make sure the e-brake line doesn't have any kinks in it and has some grease on it so it slides better (e-brake lines are not the same as brake lines, not trying to be condescending; people use different terms). Also, check the rear calipers and see if there is a lot of rust/ gunk on the spring used for the e-brake. Best way to find out what is wrong with your car would be to have the rear wheel off and have a buddy pull the e-brake on and off while you look at the rear assembly and see where/ why it is sticking.

It may be on only one side so you might have to check both. It usually only suck for me when it was cold out so it could just be an issue with it being temperature dependent.

Yeah he said it started doing it when I got cold out. He said he looked in the calipers and "seems the mechanism is foolish". He's from England LOL. But anyways he said it appears that the top seal might leak, and the Lever seizes up.

1g don't have hats and shoes.

Its a silly design (if you want to upgrade rear calipers). A cable pulls a lever on the rear which squeezes the PADS against the rotor.

I had one stick one time. Turned out to be a severely rusted/pitted piston.

If your calipers (rear) are not bad, I would say it should be your e brake Cable(s).

I did not have an ebrake problem. Just a sticky rear caliper. I would jack up the rear end and see which wheel is harder to turn or if both. I assume AWD. I am clueless as to how the FWD are setup.

FWD set-ups are really similar to AWD brake wise. I think there is a minor difference between calipers for FWD and AWD and the e-brake cable is routed a little differently meaning the cable for FWD will be too long I believe (it's been a while since I messed with my FWD eclipse).

Like others have said, it's most likely a cold weather thing. Unless you are on a hill, I would just put the car in gear if you don't want them sticking. They came loose on my car after a couple miles.

Yeah im starting to think it the cold too since he said he replaced all the lines etc. My gfs house is on an incline it sort of sucks I have to park in her drive way and have to play musical chairs when someone leaves LOL

If you want to fix this, you need to figure out where it's sticking. Either the parking brake cable is getting stuck in the housing (unlikely but always possible) or the spring return mechanism is getting stuck (most likely). If it's the spring mechanism, take a good look at it to try to find the problem. It could either be that it's gummed up and when it's cold, whatever is gumming it up is basically turning to glue. Or, it could be that the spring is really dry and corrosion is causing it to get stuck. After you drive it for a bit, vibrations probably pop it loose.

If it's gummed up, take some brake cleaner to it, toothpicks, toothbrush, whatever, and get it cleaned up. Once it's clean (or if the issue is that it's dry too dry), grease it with some spray lube (PB Blaster should work, white lithium grease would be good, silicone spray) and then pull and release the parking brake a few times. Spray it again, then pull and release the brake a few times again.

Hopefully this takes care of the issue.

Thanks man! I'll have to give this a check and see if this fixes it! :)
