Well here is my problem. The car does not run due to other issues at the current moment but is getting towed to a friends house to put it back together. Well I went out to make sure everything was as ready as it could be to get it there and well the tires were flat. So I pumped them up and tried to push the car with my wife to no avail. It would'nt even budge. I went inside the car to make sure that it wasnt in gear and the ebrake was off. Everything was as its supposed to be, but noticed that there was alot of play in the brake lever. This is what makes me think that its the brake sticking. Its been sitting now for about 9 months or so with the brake on. My question is is there an easy way to dislodge the brake without dissasembling the whole brake system in the back:pray:. And again the car will not run so just dislodging it that way is not an option. Thanks for the replies.

Go under the back of the car, on the back side of the wheel hub, locate the ebrake cable that comes from the front of the car. Locate where it connects to the brake caliper, it will have its own bracket. With your ebrake lever down, you should be able to move the bracket where it connects to the cable, move them forward as the cable would do to loosen tension. If no luck on that, you'd have to remove the tires and the 2 bolts on the brake caliper to make them release. Good luck.

If you've had the brake on for that long, the pad "fused" to the rotor. It'll happen and isn't something to worry about. Just keep an eye on how much of the cable you stretched or if you broke it. If you can't start it to drive-break the tires free, you'll need to pull the rear wheels and knock it loose off of the inside of the rotor.

This happened on my 1g when i bought it, It sat for so long that the calipers were stuck shut, thats how my car over heated, blew a whole my radiator hose, and broke the radiator. I wouldnt suggest "drive-breaking" them free because you don't know how stuck they actually are. Take the extra 15 minutes and take the tires off and knock them loose yourself

Drive braking means you turn off the ebrake via handle, put the car in gear and slowly attemt to rock the car foward and backward using the torque from the motor. You aren't going to try and drive around town with a stuck ebrake.

I'm not following how stuck brakes cause a car to overheat.

:hmm:

brakes are free when i started driving, then as i almost got to my destination the pistons inside the calipers started to lock up...i HAD to get there so i gave it more gas( i had about 100 or 200 ft to go) car starts to overheat when u try and make the motor turn but the car has so much force acting against it cause the breaks are locked up. I still would recommend not being lazy and actually taking 10 mins out to do it the right way
