I'm looking for the proper way to hook up an electronic boost controller with an external wastegate. For some reason other threads and diagrams don't make a lot of sense. But from what I did read, this is my understanding. Is this the proper way to run the vacuum lines? Thanks

Maybe if I make this more maintenance related I will get a response. Above is how I currently have my vacuum setup. I had this setup for about 25 miles until doing another boost leak test to find out the throttle body needed to be rebuilt. For the brief time I did drive with the setup, whenever I would set to high boost (about 18psi on a 20g), in 3rd gear, it would build boost and pull hard until about 5k, then the RPMs would continue to advance but the car would not accelerate.

I had the transmission rebuilt about 2000 miles ago, clutch has about 3k on it, replaced TOB at the same time. Doesn't seem to happen as much on stock boost, happened everytime I turned the boost up. Found that it held 14-15psi up to 6500rpm whether I had the EBC hooked up or if I used wastegate pressure. Does this sound like a clutch issue or like I have something hooked up wrong? Car is down until I finish the throttle body this weekend.

So what's the max boost you're getting at Hi? Sounds like your wastegate is opening early or too weak a spring.
Also what kind of wg is it? I have a Tial and the there's no second line connected to it. Just one on top, second one is a vent for the gate itself. I would try disconnecting that T and just run the line from IN to the turbo. That's how mine is set and I have no issues. I have the exact (beside turbo) setup as you.

Sorry I see that I explained that kind of confusingly.

According to the gauge my Lo setting is 14-15psi, and my Hi setting is 18psi. From what I can tell, the car runs fine at the Lo setting, but at the Hi setting, I get the issue that feels like the clutch slipping, which would be strange.

I didn't want to keep driving it with the issue, and once I noticed the RPMs going up I would try to let off the throttle. I just got everything back together so I will log a run tomorrow with the current setup and I'll also try removing the "T" from the pressure source. All the graphs I've seen did at least have one thing in common though and that was having the side port on the EWG plugged in no matter the setup. I thought that's where the wastegate gets its pressure from? But then again your setup seems to work.

Thanks for the reply.

Oh and I believe I have a 1 bar spring, 99% sure.

Actually I said it wrong. Here's a pic of where the line is on mine. I said top when I should've said side. The true top port is the one that's left open to allow the wastegate to vent.
My car would do odd things on Hi setting also but I found that to be due to the Set value. Set value is useful when you are trying to reach a boost level but can't or you're spiking. Try this: when the car is running you should see the current vac. If you turn the knob at this point you will see a set of numbers roll. This is the Set. Why there isn't a menu section for it like Gain and Boost I don't know but that's it. I bet you have a number value set in it that's causing your issues. Drop it to zero and you should pull without a problem.

Actually we both did, I have an original PROFEC B not a SPEC II :ohdamn:.

But I think it is similar...it has a knob to set a balance. I adjusted the settings on the controller. I also fixed some potential boost leaks and then went over the tune again. Got one good pull in without issue! But hope to drive some more tonight.

EDIT: I have confirmed this issue happens only on occasion. From four pulls last night, here are the results:

1st pull: 18psi - good run to 7K RPM
2nd pull: 18psi - issue after 5K RPM
3rd pull: 13psi - good run to 7K RPM
4th pull: 18psi - good run to 6k RPM

So it happened one out of four times :idontknow:. These were all in 3rd gear.

It happens like this:

I'm driving WOT starting at 2k, smooth sailing up to 5k and then the RPMs start advancing faster and the engine pitch changes. Think of it as if the tires started spinning (they didn't) or if the clutch was slipping (fairly new, idk if it could it be the clutch).

I also read something about an end clutch? Not sure. Brand new flywheel if that means anything. Good news is I was able to get nice smooth pulls at Hi and Lo boost settings, so this leads me to believe the diagram I posted is accurate. I guess the top port is optional. Bad news is I just discovered I have an exhaust leak. Right at the wastegate.

I believe that's your clutch slipping at 5k. I would make sure the master is set correctly, check the slave for air pockets, and check that the pedal isn't appling pressure to the system. Reason it mainly happens at high is due to the increased tq from 14psi to 18psi.
You say the flywheel is new, what about the clutch and pp?
The leak at the gate should make it hard for you to build boost and would be at all times unless it's a crack that only opens when it get really hot.

Got the exhaust leak fixed. And you were absolutely right about adjusting the boost controller. Got the balance set and all is well :hellyeah: I did bleed the master, but not the slave. I will check both of those this weekend.

The correct way to install an EBC (or electronic solenoid) is to use both the top and bottom ports on the external WG. I can post a diagram tonight of how my car is set up.

I currently have it hooked up like the diagram up top. Is that how you are running yours? I can't believe how confusing the diagrams out there are. But I'm confident this is the correct way to do it.

Yes, as long as both ports are used, that's the correct way. I saw someone else running the bottom port and venting the top port, that is not the correct way with an EBC, with an MBC it is however.
