although you not going to get a lot of love from everyone on these forums(or any forum for that matter) I've personally installed an ss autochrome turbo on my friends car and it ran great, he has about 3000 miles on it right now so its holding up pretty good so far however only time will tell.

as a side note if you going to use that turbo on our cars you going to have to clock the compressor housing because as it is in the pic, it looks like it will be pointing towards the block.

I am currently running this turbo (Ebay chinese T3/T04E) with those exact specs on an 01 Tiburon 2.0L i4 with forged internals. To clarify some information about this turbo, it is modelled after the Garrett T3/T04E hybrid turbo. I have not had any problems with the turbo but I have noticed a bit of shaft play (lateral, not axial, and not necessarily excessive) after 20,000 kms of use. I have ordered another turbocharger from cx racing as a spare. I have purchased a Garrett T3/T04E rebuild kit and the components are identical. I have rebuilt the new turbo using genuine Garrett journal bearings from a local turbo shop and upgraded to the 360 degree thrust bearing. I would recommend doing this if you plan to run this turbo. A genuine garrett rebuild kit is usually around $125 with a 270 degree thrust bearing. I am trying out the 360 thrust bearing from kamak industries. I will update to see how it runs when i get the new turbo installed.

Garrett Rebuild kits do work in this turbo!!
-It has the dynamic type seal
-Works pretty good for a custom setup because you can rotate compressor housing or exhaust housing into any position to fit you setup simply by loosening the clamp bolts on the housing and rotating it.
-It is not water cooled so you should get a turbo timer or at least manually cool it down everytime, doesn't really matter if you drive easy or not, my egt gauge climbs up to 700 degrees celcius from 200 in about 5 seconds under acceleration.

Overall cost of my brand new turbo: $200 for turbo w/ shipping + $70 for kamak garrett rebuild kit w 360 degree thrust bearing + $15 for genuine garret bearings = $285
or $325 with full genuine garrett rebuild kit and 270 degree thrust bearing.

The turbo spools quite well with the right tweaking, on light throttle my boost gauge is from 3-5psi and quickly spools up at wot to my designated 12psi around 3000rpm. I have pushed it to 17 psi without problems.

Overall, I think if you take these precautionary measures, rebuild with better internals, and keep an eye on your turbo, (proper cool downs, proper oil pressure and restrictor plate) it could last quite well. The machining inside the turbo was actually pretty impressive and it feels really crisp with the garrett internals. The quality control in china must have increased over the last couple years. Just remember to get the turbo balanced if you are rebuilding a used one. Mine was brand new and individually balanced, as a precaution i still indexed the compressor and shaft and reassembled in the same spot.

Sorry for the boatload of information on this turbo, but I was looking for this kind of info and it should be helpful to someone.

People say so much crap about ebay turbo but its a hit or miss with them.I have bought two eclipses both with ebay e3 16g turbo and they have been proven to last! One has alot of miles with the turbo and its doing fine.but for every good ebay turbo there are 5 bad ones.

People? Look at the facts.

Ebay turbochargers are not authentic turbochargers, but are cheaper copies.
Ebay Turbochargers are what alot of people call hit or miss parts, meaning under good conditions the turbo could outlast an authentic turbocharger, but in alot of cases will just end up cracking, destroying itself or even in the most worst cases destroying your motor.
Ebay turbochargers are not all made in china.
Ebay turbochargers are not technically "Ebay Turbochargers" They are reproduced copies marketed by different sellers, vendors and retailers sometimes and in most cases as legitimate aftermarket turbochargers.

These turbochargers unlike other no-name parts on ebay are a pretty significant risk when considering how much money and effort you are or will put into your car. You really need to ask yourself are you willing to cheap out on something that can cost you alot more than you wanted intially?

Besides that ask Justin about turbochargers. He knows

I tried a T04E from ebay a few years ago(cx racing) on a 420aTurbo project. It smoked like all hell and needed a rebuild immediately LOL. Complete junk. But they're hit n miss. Some good some bad.

Bandres: That is one of my favorite sports cars. Would love it if they made them factory turboed. Itd be so much easier. Beautiful car though. Top 3: 2g eclipse, 01 celica, and the tiburon gen you have.

....plus another $300 for a second of the same when the shitty turbine shaft snaps, or the fins shear off the pot-metal compressor wheel and you can't buy parts for it.

Buy the real thing and be done with it.
