Just wondering since i will soon be freshening up my engine bay and mods come next year and wanted to change a few parts, sensors and what not, and wanted to hear some opinions.

I was looking into 2 options, either keeping my stock o2 housing and just getting a new o2 sensor on it or getting both new sensor and an ebay o2 tubular o2 housing like this one :
95-99 Eclipse 2G DSM O2 Housing Dump Tube Pipe 4G63:eBay Motors (item 280435698495 end time Jan-07-10 03:09:11 PST)

Not bad for $70 shipped. What do you guys think ? Is it a good o2 housing upgrade ? Will it flow that much more ? The ebay one seems to be 2.5", and i will not want to port the 2g, so this is why i ask these questions. Thanks.

I bought one of these and noticed a nice little midrange difference, car just felt.....smoother (only way to put it)

My buddy bought the exact same one you're looking at though (except open dump), same vendor and all, and when he went to take out his o2 sensor the o2 bung pretty much came out with it. I haven't tried to take mine out yet so who knows what will happen, but I do remember that he had anti-seize on it and it still happened.

Hmm, well when i put on the new o2 sensor i don't plan to ever take it out so i think i should be good as far as that goes. How was install ? Easy ?

ROFL ROFL ROFL

The bolts were rusted to say the least. I ended up taking it to a friend who works at the dealership and he wrenched them loose with air tools. Since you've already changed your downpipe you shouldn't have to worry about those bolts, but the ones on the turbo (edit, you have a new turbo too)

Install should be fairly easy since all your bolts have been busted loose within the last year. Mine and my friend's bolted right up perfectly.

Great sounds like a green light. I was actually asking about install though from the o2 housing to downpipe, did you manage to tighten both bolts and nuts on the o2 housing fairly easy ? Good seal ?

Yeah they matched up fine since my downpipe has a 2.5" entry. IIRC you'll have to get some extra nuts and bolts though, I think you have to take a stud out of your old o2 housing also :aha: I don't remember.

Hmm no biggie if anything i have a local ace hardware if i need longer/shorter bolts. Thanks a lot for the help guys i'm all settled. :)

I'm going to try an ebay one myself. I don't even need a front o2 sensor because my tuning kit can simply use my wideband in place of my shortband o2. So, I might not even remove the original bolt that comes in it.

Cool man if you get it on before i do let me know how it goes.

I tried an Ebay O2 housing years ago and it split where the seam on the pipe was. I was pretty disappointed but that's my personal experience.
They could have possibly increased the quality slightly since then because I hear a lot of good things from members recently.
You can be certain that you will never have any issues with your stock 2g housing and when ported, flows plenty for most applications.

I have a Chinese dump on my Talon and like it 95% of the time, it's loud to say the least LOL.

My only complaint is I think it's too short as bolting up my Megan Turbo back was a complete pain in the ass.

That one looks a lot like the one I bought. I think I paid about $45 shipped for mine. It's still holding up well. It hasn't cracked, and the o2 sensor has been in and out twice and the bung is still in there solid. I really can't complain too much about it.

The biggest problem I have with mine is finding exhaust gaskets to fit it. It seems like and odd size. My flange on my DP is slotted, so that's not a problem, but the bolt holes in the o2 housing weren't a standard gasket offered at my local Advance Auto. Oddly, a manifold to turbo gasket (mitsu bolt pattern) works perfectly when stuck in diagonally. I just trimmed the extra off. It works great since it's a copper crush one. Don't ask me how I found out that would work.

They must have increased the quality. Mine is gooing great on the second car now. Been run for 2 1/2 years. Fit right the first time. I also noticed better spool and more flow in the midrange. This was with the small 16g. It beats out a ported 2g anyday of the week. You could never get one as open as a tubular o2 housing. And considering I saw a differnece at only 22psi with a small 16g, that says alot about the value of an o2 housing upgrade.

Ok I just ran one on my GST a few months ago. Bought it brand new on ebay. The chrome looks awesome but will NOT last. After the first 200 miles it will turn a gold color. The welds held up great. When I started analyzing it I noticed that the wastegate reciculating tube was partially (about half way) blocked off from the manufacturer not completely making a full hole before welding the recirc tube. I had to use a die grinder and a carbide burr to grind off the excess.

Tha main turbine wheel hole IS a true 2.5 (maybe 2.45) but its transition between the tubing to the flange was a bit shotty aka not a smooth transition. The "gasket" that it came with excessively covered up the flange so I ended up using an evo III o2 gasket.

For the downpipe nuts, the bolt that is closer to the turbine side, I had to place the nut above the flange and insert and screw the bolt from the bottom up but no biggie. I had to use the wrench for the nut and and a looong ratchet and extension for the bottom. For the other downpipe hole, the bolt was fine being inserted from the top down and having the nut at the bottom. The bolts provided in the box hold up fine.

In all, I recommend the piece just as long as you dont mind the "cleaning up" of it and the minor manufacturing flaws.

Good luck man!

^ I think somebody is thowing you a hint that they're looking to sell, DSMJ89. LOL

He already has a 2g one on his car. I had in up in the classifieds for almost 3 weeks and it didn't sell, so I just kept it. I'll probably relist a bunch of my stuff right after Christmas. :rocks:

One thing I would recommend is getting downfiring studs welded in so you won't have to use a socket and a wrench, just like the stock o2 housing. The side closest to the turbine housing has very minimal room to work with, which makes getting a nut in there very difficult. That's just something i'd recommend to save alot of hassle especially if you're doing it by yourself.

I like that idea. I thought about doing this; but only AFTER I was struggling getting the down pipe on :ohdamn: . But I got it on with an open end wrench after a few choice expressions. . . If I had to do it over again, I certainly would weld on the bolts.

Haha yeah i did the same thing, thought about it after everything but the downpipe was hooked up.
