so im most likely going to buy a 2g talon (probably 95-96) for my next car in the future. what i want to know is, is there anything i should know about the car. major problems, defective parts (needs aftermarket boost gauge or something) tips on maitenence. etc.

if/when i get this car, im going to slowly add parts to it using this site as a guide

I have a 95 Talon TSi AWD myself I recently picked up. Just a few things to consider...
Try to keep it low mileage. If it is around 50-75K make sure the T-belt was changed. One of the biggest things to worry about is crankwalk and should check for warning signs of it. As far as the boost gauge....it's pretty much useless if you mod the car. Other than that, read up on the site and just use common sense. Good luck! :thumb:

Crankwalk should be the least of your worries. Read about it, understand it, realize that you probably will never get it, then stop worrying about it. It's a good idea to watch for the warning signs when looking at the car though.
Yes the stock "boost (fun) gauge" is worthless unless you're leaving the car stock.

Are we talking about the stock boost gauge? If so, I never saw any use for it, if we are talking about an aftermarket boost gauge then yes, you can't mod without one.

If you've read the forum you'll see that all DSM's have problems. Especially when you start modding them. DSM=Don't Start Modding But that doesn't stop us :) heheh

When you pick up the car change the timing belt. Regardless of what the previous owner says. Alot of people think that "just changed" means last year. Not with these cars. Pick up an aftermarket boost gauge before you buy Anything like everyone else says. And buy a Chilton's Manual.

If you're unsure about anything, search for it on the site, if you can't find the answer you're looking for then ask.

And if you don't have a Turbo Timer installed on your car, which you won't if it's stock, let it cool down after driving it. Prolongs the life of the car/turbo.

You will be waiting a long time if you want it to cool down. The turbine continues to spin at a high rpm even at idle (after being spooled up) . If you shut the car down while it is spinning, you shut off the oil flow to the turbine bearings!
95's built before 11/95 will have an ecu with a changeable EPROM. The rear rotors are vented and the rear pads are different due to the rotors. I bought mine new in 95 and so far so good. 125,000 miles to date. Routine maintenance. Only inhale and exhaust mods. with a short shifter.

I find it funny that you gave him both of those as advice. If you are worried about crankwalk at all then just sell the car and move on. Most people that are scared of crankwalk feel that way because of people like you. How many cars have you actually measured to see if crankwalk was the actual cause for failure? What were the specs and how did you check it?

Crankwalk isn't that bad. Most people have a 7 bolt fail and just say it is crankwalk, but when you ask people if they actually measured most just say it had symptoms so it must be. As far as boost gauges go get an after market one and never look back. The factory gauge doesn't actually read boost so it is not accurate at all.

thanks everyone.

i had an account here like 2 years ago but forgot my username, so im not totally unfamiliar with these cars
