-fan controller added, which grounds ECU pin 20 @ 190° and then turns on both fans on medium

-found a leak.....the stud we all know needs RTV, except it wasn't a stud, it was ALL-THREAD. ughhhh no. I put an OEM stud and bolt in.

-have to do new bulbs and headlights light stuff up front. Bumper is off. So nice to see the car cleaned up.

-i saw the inner tie rod boot is ripped.....yay.

It's prolly just the angle of the pic. It seemed right last time I messed with it, but I can check again. Everything had gunk on it so this is an item that looks as it was. I didn't clean it too much.

Fuel pump is loud and crap. It's a new Wally 255 and it got loud early on. At 4krpm it goes super lean. IDC is only 36%. like 13.5 AFR lean, regardless of fuel slider adjust.

I'm gonna pull it and order a new one I guess.

The car feels SOOOOO nice driving down the road tho. I cannot wait for 20-25psi and 7k rpm shifts. And back roads cruising. I'm closer. .....

Great progress. From the fuel pump picture, your tank looked almost like mine( mine was a lot worse). I was having similar issues as you with a loud pump. I went with a 190. I replaced it thinking it was just a bad pump. But the second pump did the same loud whine after a few minutes of run time. The filter sock was getting clogged from all the sediment/rust that was in the tank. I dropped it, poured CLR and then pressure wash it out. That solved my loud fuel pump issues.

I ended up redoing the entire underside above the tank area. Its all ready for the tank now.

Slow progress on the tank work. Waitied for parts, got em in, decided to get more new parts. Got fuel lines, but i just realized the onsolete high pressure line from the pump to the body is rotted...yet another montero part was sourced. I also got the fuel level sender from a buddy and i ordered a pump housing since mine was a bit crappy and the line was fatigued from prevos owners

Montero fuel check valave and high pressure lines work for us.

So i ordered an OEM mirage fuel neck to gas tank hose.....evo guys keep these in demand. Its not exact but its close! So when the tank goes in ill be trying that. Hopefully it fits and then we can hhave somme kind of oem option. Its new in the plastic bag with PN on it, so its legit.

I am awaiting a new pump hanger assy. I ordered a new one. I want it all new. I can wait. I want it right. Itll be here this week i think?

I didn't know you could still get a new pump hanger assy for 2g's. You can?
That rubber fuel line from the hanger outlet pipe to the hard line under the car, if you can also get a new one of those that fits, you won't have to try to loosen it from your old hanger assy, right? That's awesome too. Those are always corroded together to death from what I've seen.

Well you can and you cant......

Nightmare of a time with the new tank and pump basket assy. 3hrs and 4 tank drops later, its IN. In typical DSM fashion, i had to do some things to achieve some things. Is what it is.

....I had to beat the floorpan up 1/2" and beat the fuel tank check valve area down 1/2" to get it to clear. Gotta love it! Theres no other way to make things clear with this aftermarket tank. Is what it is. The area of the car is luckily under the riser for the rear seat and hatch area so it wont be seen.

I reused the old fuel fill line (93-96 mirage one did NOT work, so its now a spare for my summit in the future), and I did get a better condition OEM fuel level sender. Eerything else is brand new. It woulda been easy if the tank was made exactly as oem heigh but i guess asking that is a lot for a $250 tank from rock auto.

Obsolete work arounds:
-montero swivel end high pressure line: eBay like $45 WORKS PERFECT. PERFECT. YES.
-montero check valve assy (cross reference PN for our cars, confirmed same): eBay.
-2g non turbo fuel pump basket assy.....so, the hanger is shorter. Like .350" shorter. I had to oval out the L bottom bracket hole, and bend ou the hanger and the overflow tube a bit. I also shortened the rubber connector hose (love that instead if that dumb 2g turbo cup thing and O-ring idea. After that, I got it in. The pump sits a little lower (thats .350" amount, but is NOT contacting the bottom of the tank. If u push up on the tank you can feel the filter on the pump. Is what it is. I could add gaskets to raise the entire basket, or shorten the inner hard tube hard line where the pump connects and reflare, but right now i need the car running again first. Maybe ill revisit that later on.

Started, idling, warmed up....rain is gone for a bit so HOPEFULLY today it comes out. I hope!

Buffed up the rear and pass side some more. Rear cargo tray and covers all back on.

car was aligned, i have some camber to dial out to even things up. Over 200mi on the restoration now! Returned AFR and boost levels, driven it HARD on backroads and its doing very well

Justin has my spare td05 hes redoing to a green-ish build for me for next year. For now, the hilarious oem feeling 14b stays.

"GTX3071R spec with G25 blade aero" is what he got in, with the 7cm td05 hotside.

Oh i also FINALLY got an OEM batt bracket from Harleys parts stash and made wood spacer blocks for the Mk6 VW Golf battery i was given

Isn't that basically the same thing as the old school FP Green, but with basically better wheel technology? Should rip.


If I recall correctly the old school FP Green was just a 50-trim wheel with a TD05H turbine, and the Red was a 60-1 wheel and TD06 turbine.
