I will be running E85 ethanol real soon and was wondering how its working in the cooler climate winter areas.

I know they adjust the fuel for winter to help with cold start but have not heard how its working with our older models.

I run megasquirt with E-85 and 1660cc injectors and have no problems running it. I do not run my car alot in the winter bc if the weather etc. But I do fire it up once a week or so and she starts right up.

Just FYI they have E70 right now. So wait til they actually get E85 back at the pumps. It is a HUGE pain in the ass running it winter. I was running it up until Mid October or so. It had starting problems. I had to crank it like 7 times before it'd finally turn over and want to stay running.

Thanks for all the input!!!

As of right now I think I'm going to wait until I get my new intercooler (still running the stock SMIC) WTF

I think with my new gear I should be able to get into the 10's this year.

With my Megasquirt I've been able to get winter blend ~E70 to start down to around 8f, thats the coldest I've had to try.

Something that I've found that helps when its cold to get it started is to crank it for 2-3 seconds, stop for 15-20 then crank again and it usually just fires right up. Where you can crank and crank and sometimes it still wont fire if its very cold out.
I think it gives the gasoline in the mix time to evaporate.

Wow.. that was still on the stock smic? Where you running any knock? What are you doing with the sleeper16g?

Yeah still running the stock SMIC. No knock on pump with a DevilsOwn H2O/Meth injection.

Running 18psi with a 75 shot single wet. The nitrous helps a lot with the intake temps.:thumb:

I'm going to keep the FP Sleeper 16g on and try to get the car into the 10's at full weight.

My plans are to go to bigger injectors and run E85 and a air to water intercooler. Plus replace the rubber hoses with hard pipes. Then on goes the FP 3065 or maybe leave it alone not sure yet.

I live in South Florida. There were some mornings where it was in the upper 40s and the car would start but would it would idle a little rough. It had a tendency to do that any morning under 50 degrees after the car was sitting for a whole night. I have read in numerous places that cold start ups are kind of rough.

In the winter time you have to deal with the inconsistency of E85. it fluctuates anywhere between E70-E75.

What do you owe that success to... The nitrous?
Were you able to dial in gobs of timing and lean it out a lot?
Whats so different about the fp sleeper 16g than the standard MHI evo3?

Thanks.

The nitrous does help a ton. It acts like a good fmic and makes instant torque.

Off the bottle I run 11.8 a/f. On the bottle I'm running around 9.8 to 10.5. Timing is at 18* total.

The sleeper 16g is a proven high 300whp turbo. The best I ran was 12.5@110mph running 22psi with no bottle. With a good fmic and running 28psi I'm sure I could of got it to go 12.0@115mph without bottle. There is other 16g's and evo turbos that will run with it or more but they won't look like a stock turbo.:shhh:

Why 11.8, thats kind of lean on pump gas. ( You use 93 oct right?)
You probably would gain more making it richer like 11.4 ish and adding timing if possible.

In some southern parts of the country it remains E-85. Let me see if i can find the regional info again.
edit* I have it saved on my computer. I can e-mail to anyone interested. Just PM me.

These runs were on pump92.

I tried it at 11.2 to 11.4 and lost 2 mph.

I'm sure with more timing it would of made more power but honestly I got a little worried would detonate.
