Switched to e85 and I thing within less than a week the filter ,which was a cheap autoparts store filterless than than a year old, is already gummed up. The car spools a whole 1k slower or sometimes just won't boost at all. Then sometimes it isn't as bad. boost does come to or close to full boost(30psi) And then falls off up top like a t25. Also get some little boost farts above 5k.

I am replacing the filter tonight but any other opinions are welcome! I am new to e85 and am shocked if the filter clogged within 5 days of DD.

This is not uncommon, the clogging that is. You might have to do it again in the near future as more gunk is dissolved/dislodged from the tank and lines thanks to the e85.

As for the slow spooling, did you log any of the activity? If the filter was clogged, you might have been leaning out, pulling timing, and slowing the entire combustion process. My experience with e85 is that I spool quicker on it than with pump gas.

You will most likely go through 2 other filters in a very short timespan. E85 will clean out alot of gunk that had been sitting in your fuel system for the past 10+ years. The filter is doing it's job. Change it and toss in a new one.

You might also want to check on the filter that is actually on the intank pump. I just changed mine out today as I noticed a bit of leaning out during a wot pull. While you have the tank open take a look at how shiney and new it looks now.

Yeah I just cleaned the pump strainer with some dish soap when I replaced the O ring that was leaking, causing fuel presure drop. I would think it is still clean. The 2g tanks are plastic so I don't know how new it would look. I'll report back when I change it in the morning. It is kinda chilly out, and I am lazy :p

Well I got bored and changed the filter. I lost my tune until I get my other laptop to reload it back up and see any results. But I did cut up open the old filter and apon my inspection I did not find any of the infamous black goop that you would find in the injectors that some users have complained clog up the injectors. I noticed that 98% of the filter was a dark cardboard like color and very few parts were lightly yellow like a banana.

The car would start and was firing on all injectors, even witha pump gas default tune, started better than when I let it warm up on my e85 tune. So I am going to knock on wood, and should know by the end of the day if the filter was the problem. If not, I will run some logs.

UNless it's an AWD thing only there's something up with mine... My 2g (97) has a metal tank.

But yea, i went through 3 filters immediately then had to clean the SS fuelab one i put in for number 3 just a few months later again, I think now i'm probably done for a little while ( i hope)

I never had to change the filter yet on either my 2g or 1g after switching to E85. Infact, I've never changed fuel filters on my 2g since I've owned it (4 years or so).

I think gas gum build up in tanks is area specific. Doesnt seem to be happening to every E85 convert

I don't know if this will be helping, but the black goo that does form is easily cleaned by running pump through them, so when the car was right on E I dumped a whole bottle of injector cleaner when I wasn't sure if it was the filter or injectors.

I think every other tank I will do this to see if it keeps the injectors clean.

Guys been running E85 for a couple years. Just did a rebuilt and pulled my injectors to install in a new motor and saw this! What is getting me worried is that not all of them are clogged making me think its the megasquirt screwing things up or..... the clean one is leaking, the really clogged on is the closest to the return line. Is there a way I can see if the voltage from the harness is good? or is it too fast? Any input would be great

Good I will try that, thanks for the hint. I am thinking about switching out the two nuts that hold the rail in to wingnuts so i can pull the rail easier and check it more often.

Im not to sure that I would do that....

the wing nuts could easliy back off, causing the rail to come off, causing gas to shoot everywhere, causing this.....

Which is what happened.
