I have the supporting mods to handle the 20+ psi if it creeps, but I wanted to avoid creep so I could dial my car in where I want it. The turbo came with the ported inlet, but like always they didn't port into the wastegate inlet area. I ported that out, the hole, and put a 34mm flapper on. I cut into the housing so that the arm could open the full 90* and when I was all done I put air to the actuator and the thing only opens like 40 degrees!! I read some threads and they mentioned this but no fixes nor other actuators that fully extend. I was using a blow gun and shop air (160 psi, though obviously I didn't put that much into the actuator) and it would only open 1/2 way. I haven't broken in my new motor to go WOT and see if it creeps, but are they any other WGA that will fully extend or is this normal?

so then with porting and the 34mm flapper, it shouldn't creep even with it only opening half way?

What kind of exhaust setup do you have?

The 34mm flapper helps control creep when boost is set low. It may pervent you from running 20+ psi (It might blow open).

Would it be silly to say just dial the turbo in at 20psi.

Evo3's love the 20psi mark for some reason.

Like you said, you have the supporting mods, why not dial it in for whatever boost it comes up to be? It's a heck of alot easier then porting, modding, hacking, or otherwise trying to control low-level boost.

I've got a Megan Racing 3" downpipe with no cat, and a 2.5" custom bent exhaust. I don't want to just set it up for 20 because if I'm driving on the street and I have bad creep I don't want to have to shift at like 5k because its already creeping. I ported it all out, i read some posts from Oldman, and we'll see what happens.

On a seperate note: Does anyone's 16G sound like vortech supercharger or timing gears? I had the J-pipe on but not tightened to the intercooler so I know I had leaks, I was just base timing the engine, but it sounded like a set of mustang timing gears whirring. I know its getting oil. Just want to make sure this is normal before I boost it hard.

You may be applying 20psi but you don't have the same CFM as the turbo does. When the turbo open's it, it will open farther. You won't have a creep problem.

Exactly.

If you set it to 20psi and leave it there I'll bet you'll have zero creep problems. :thumb:

I have a similar 16g setup w/34mm flapper that I am working on. I have a question about the wastegate actuator though. Hopefully this thread isn't totally dead.

Should I have to pull on the actuator rod a little to get it onto the flapper arm? I would think so because the flapper needs to have some tension on it so it seals, right? I'm not exactly sure how the actuator functions so thats why I'm askin. I shouldv'e noted how it was when I took it off.
