2G Dyno with EVO 3 GT turbo

My MHI evo III falls dead after 6k at 20psi. I like to blame it on the big fmic.

thats strange, mine pulls hard to 7.5k @ 20psi. i used to have a log of airflow and rpm on my palm but its dead. that was with a 24x12x3 fmic, but then again its with a SBR cast manifold on a Real MHI Evo16g Ported. and even with the 34mm flapper it shown no signs of puttering out.

From personal experience, the SBR manifold gives alot of top end. A buddy of mine put one on his 1g still on the 14b and it shifted the powerband to the higher rpms. His car would pull harder from 5k to redline than it did at the low rpms which is usually where "small" turbos shine.

This doesn't make sense since there are still the same "bottlenecks" post manifold (Turbo, O2 housing, exhaust). Are you sure your friend did not also add cams / intake / head work at the same time? That would definitely improve the VE of the engine in the higher RPMs.

The only thing else I could think of is the SBR manifold being of larger internal volume would take more time to fill/compress with exhaust gas possibly creating a little more lag off boost

No he didnt and yes we were all surprised at what happened. It kinda sucked sometimes having lag with a 14b but you would get a smile up top. I defintily recommend dat manifold tho, its a nice piece. I suspect something else added to the lag but the manifold was the cause of the top end for sure.

thats strange. the SBR manny, if anything, dropped me from hitting full boost at 3600 to 32-3300rpm with a fmic. i have a SBR Manny, Ported E16g, Tubular o2, stock DP and Cat, then 3" catback. i got it just cause i wanted better spool. but it did add a little more flow up top.

It will improve top end flow, yes.

However, I'm quite positive your lag is coming from somewhere else.

Sorry for the OT response.

Great numbers man. Im specially happy to see a higher torque figure than hp. I bet she moves now :shhh:
haha yeah it moves...@ 135 with massive bluish cloud of smoke pouring from his motor..he got a little happy the past weekend when we cruised like 20 cars deep to a meet spot.

a little late congrats to 98turbo, i'm thinking about getting that turbo now, i just need money first :)o and im definitely waiting to see you reach your 300 goal.

Are you sure it isn't the compression tester that is off? It is rare to get compression to be equally fubared in all 4 cylinders.

I've seen compression testers that were off by 20psi in either direction.

As have I. It's a quick way to make yourself go insane.

A post that was put up earlier stated that he was blowing a nice blue cloud out of the exhaust, so something is up.

those are great numbers mayte, Your car can do lots of damage now, screw subarus, your next targets should be stock corvettes :thumb: , i do hope that turbo does not take a shit on you though. Please make an update in a couple months, remember, always turbotime the shit out of your turbo to keep it going.

Well, the post with the "bluish smoke" is off, it was night time and I was passing him at about 110mph so.....but isn't my whp number low for my mods? As for the turbo, I'll be posting the dyno sheet as soon as I can so you guys can see the boost efficiency....
