A while back I started the process of dying my grey interior in my 96 Talon to black. I did lots of searching and decided to use SEM Color Coat.
A while after I did some big pieces I found out you had to use clear coat (d'oh) so I started over again and this time I got some pictures/videos for you guys.

Should have my door panels done and together by Monday night.
I'll update this as things progress.

Where did you read that you have to use clear coat? Everywhere I read it says clear coat is not needed.

Looks nice, cool to see you finished up the s2000 cluster, goes well with the curve of the eclipse cluster opening :thumb:

I custom made the bezel, that's why it looks like it fits perfect.

A couple posts on here and Honda tech actually. You need to give the panel some sort of hard shell.

that looks nice but hopefully it doesnt wear off over time and look something other than cool, i dont think those ever keep a long lasting finish, but that my 2 cents

SEM isn't paint, it's a dye that soaks into the piece. With the clear on I can't scratch it, I've tried.
Their products are used not only in Automotive but in the Airplane industry too.

Got the dash clear coated today. I put the vents, tweeters and some of the buttons back in place. I'm 99% sure my Speedohealer is at the post office so I'll pick it up tomorrow and get the last bit of wiring done and put the dash harness back in.

I actually like the contrast the grey switches and dimmer give to the black dash. However I will eventually replace them with black ones.

Also my door panels are back together! I need to recover the inserts but that's easy to do. I ditched the Styrofoam and plastic box thingy on the back on the panels, they did nothing and were just dead weight.

I've got a bunch of other stuff I'm in the process of clear coating, I'll put pictures up when it's done.
Some of this stuff will be getting installed in the car in another week!!

Thanks for the videos, this looks great. What was your final price for all of this. I have a black dash, center council, and steering wheel from my gsx with black/tan interior and want to do a black/grey conversion and will want to paint a lot of my plastics black. Looking forward to the final outcome!

That looks really good and is the color I'm hoping to go with. Did you purchase the Gloss Black or the Satin Black? I had the same question for the clear coat....the High Gloss Clear or the Satin Gloss Clear?

I am doing the same thing in my 1G, however I was wondering if it was possible to die the carpet and seats too. I already have anything that is plastic or vinyl painted. I also know that a replacement carpet can be bought for ~100 dollars. Just wondering if there is something besides reupholstering the seats i can do.

Price, not sure. I still need a few more cans of black.

That is nice. It doesn't scratch easily does it?

With the clear it doesn't scratch. Without the clear it will get scratched up.

Landau black is the color I'm using.
The clear is a low luster/low gloss clear.

I'm dying my carpet and seats (removing the fabric from the seats) with Rit dye. I'll post pictures of the out come.

You should see if that clear tacks up if it gets warm. I had that problem with one of my door panels before

I am not trying to rush or anything, but how is the dying coming along? What products are you planning to use?

Word to that. You should break it up with aluminium accents or another fairly neutral trim.

Looks very nice though. Good job :thumb:

I'm likely gonna leave some stuff Grey. It adds a bit of contrast and I like it.

I'm having an issue with the door panels, the dye isn't working and it's flaking off so I'm going to have to redo them again. I'll call SEM on Monday and see what they say.

I'm doing other stuff on the car right now so I'm not touching the interior for another week. Only thing I'll be doing is dying the carpet.
