not a DSM'er but my dad says some of the stupidest stuff about cars i've ever heard. but my fav is an ongoing argument i've had with him for about 5 months now.

"there is no different between high performance summer tires and winter tires other then they look different. winter tires and summer tires will both drive exactly the same in the winter"

he thinks winter tires are just a thing tire company's say to make people buy an extra set of tires.

which is crazy because we live in michigan by lake michigan so we get lake effect snow all the time.

. Make your dad a bet. tell him to go driving in summer tires in the dead of winter, then snow tires. If his "butt dyno" notices a big difference he must reimburse you for the tires, if not he can keep them and sell them. Snow tires (living in Ohio) is one of my best investments I ever made on my car.

Aren't winter tires also made from a different rubber make up? So that the tires don't get hard when the temperatures drop unlike a summer tire?

^^ yes, generally a real winter tires is made of softer rubber compounds that maintain their flexibility in cold weather, allowing for more grip and traction because the tire will shape easier to the ground.

And they also do have special cuts n grooves to "bite" the ice/snow and road more.

I know snow tires work, and it only snows here like once every damn 8 years. And for that week or so, I wish I had some.

dude a 420a motor with no forged internals or any prep for a turbo would blow itself apart if 27psi was put to it. mine is only tuned to 23 and its not safe with the stock headers.
