i was talking to a kid on facebook about his 3000gt (sohc 6g72)

he said it was nice (as in just a nice car.. nothing wrong with it)

so i said "is it this nice?" and sent him this picture

i just stopped talking... i know hes not into cars.. but i gave him a pic of a built car and he compares it to his subs and bright lights.
 
former friend currently owns my old 1g, clams he knows more about dsms, vr4's, cars in general then me. anyway he goes to do a timing belt job,We are at napa as im telling him to buy oem parts doesnt listen. he gets the belt, then asks for the tensioner, i say only oem, auto stores cant get them. with an attituide "says does it really matter were i get my sh!t from?" :coy: no not at all. he finds out they cant get tensioner. ok oem then, gets the job done. i tell him ill give that belt a few thousand miles, time goes by belt shreds jumps timing bends his valves:tease:. gets a new head then comes to me and ask can u order me the right OEM parts. :ohdamn:
Same kid thinks my turbo flutter is my bov.:cry:(he searched n cant find a bov to sound like mine)WTF
also didnt know the difference between a B.O.V n a wastegate???some people just dont belong owning dsm's

how much whp do you get from an OEM tensioner? Kinda seems stupid for me to pay 180 plus at mitsu dealership when I can get just as good for cheaper or better for the same money at Oreilly's....
i didnt say i go stright to the dealer, i go to performance shop close to me with their discount n get it cheaper. small gaskets n bolts i do go stright to dealer. not to much autoparts store. OEM is a peace of mind.
 
my buddy and I were arguing about cars at work. He was insisting that his '02 Malibu is way better than my '97 GS-T. though there were many excellent quotes that I cannot remember now, my most favorite two:

"Your eclipse is lame, the motor doesn't even fit right, that's why they had to make room by raising part of the hood."

how do you argue with a guy like that? My conclusion...you can't. Hence the reason to this day he thinks he knows more than me about cars because I just give up when he starts talking.

OEM is peace of mind for fools and simpletons. Fel Pro gaskets > OEM. Cometic > OEM. ARP > OEM. Gates>OEM. Moog Chassis Parts> OEM.. Better quality, better durability. often lower price.

People that swear by "OEM Everything" are almost as as bad that kid that has greddy turbos, greddy intake, greddy gages, greddy fmic, greddy exhaust. I realise you can get a lot of shit from greddy or HKS... But its usually more expensive and may not even be as good quality as the competitors. Thats why there are competitiors. They figure out how make something better, and make it a better price, and still turn a profit.

Yeah certain stuff. OEM FTW. Oil Filter Houseing? OEM, Oil Pump/Front Case? OEM, oil filter? OEM/K&N.
 
Ok this isn't a dsmer but just stupid in generali was hanging out with some friends and a kid that was there while we were all talking about what car we would like to get if we didn't have the car we currently have and in mid conversation the kid chims in and says one day he would like to get a JDM we all kind of stop and say ok you want to get a JDM what and in this sortof pissed of you are stupid attitude says you know a jdm dumbass.

I have an ongoing story with my own father. He owns an 89 5.0. Classic setup, headers, exhaust and that's pretty much it. It's got gears in the rear and also bags in the back to help with handling and launching etc. He seems to think that his 5.0 will run at least 12 seconds in the 1/4 mile and also has roughly 300 HP. He also thinks that the tornado fuel saver really works. The hell of it is, is that he does know his stuff when it comes to working on cars, but I think his generation did a lot more butt dynoing than actual dynoing.

What's amazing are those Butt Dyno's were really demanding and 400HP felt like 200HP to them. All that and they STILL produced amazing machines. Hrm.

You'd screw with a Vette, simple.

Would you honestly pull up beside a 67 Charger visually producing enough torque each time it revs to nearly twist the entire car, and screw with that?

It doesnt bother me one bit you want piss your money away on a more expensive product that isnt actually any better.
 
buddy of mine has a 1gb gsx....he said he wants to sell it for 3 grand and if it doesnt sell....hes gonna 1ga swap it....no need for opposition in the opinion

btw i think this threads name should be changed to....most recent dumb thing you have heard a dsmer say.....
 
Wow, I know exactly how the OP of that thread felt. I was exactly like him when I first got my car. I was completely clueless. Anyway here's some things I've heard, not by DSM'ers, but by other "car enthusiasts":

1. 1 psi = 10 hp regardless of turbo and the setup (this guy supposebly overhauled an engine before )

2. Taking the cat off and putting a test pipe adds like 30 hp. Ok

3. I felt a huge difference when I put that k&n filter in.

4. Aren't the talons a bootleg version of the eclipse?

5. Do an awd burnout! (on a 195 hp car)

6. Him: Do you have a bov?
Me: yes
Him: howcome i can't hear it?
Me: because it's stock
Him: bov's don't come stock
Me:

7. My friend's friend's friend's friend has a stage 3 turbo on his talon.

8. A v6 mustang owner called my car slow and rice.

9. According to a Civic ex owner: "My car feels more torquey than yours." This was comparing both cars' throttle at 2k rpms. ROFLROFL


Actually #2 is lightly correct. One of my Close Homeboys has a Supercharged S2k running 11lbs of boost. With a cat he makes 340RWHP and with a Test Pipe he makes 370RWHP on the same dyno.
 
I would have to say if someone has a problem with me then they should keep it to themselves if they are going to be a baby and post some garbage like that in public (oh wait, I'm guilty too now.) There is a difference between being dumb and having an ignorant, non-mainstream opinion.
